ATL_BALLER
So. Joe, Marvin and the majority of the bench have been jettisoned - yet this team is eerily prone to the same types of losses as its predecessor(s). Losses characterized by inexplicablly lethargic blowouts and maddening meltdowns. The primary (dare I say 'core') holdovers: Coach Drew, Josh, Al and Jeff. The question: are we getting closer to the real problem, or is it some intangible cultural phenomenon that hangs over the franchise's current era, regardless of personnel? TheNorthCydeRises
Baller, the team is STILL out of balance. That's why this keeps happening vs certain teams. There is no "cultural phenomenon" going on here. Before the season started, we all agreed that whenever we played a star or superstar SG or SF, we may be in trouble. Combine that with the SOFTNESS of this team overall, and we'll still see schizophrenic performances from the Hawks.
yungsta
The common denominator is our small inconsistent frontcourt, softness and lack of toughness. From the joe johnson era til now. We have always been undersized and lacked post players. I dont know how many sports analyst and sports writers talked about how we are undersized and lack toughness. even joe johnson when he was traded to the brooklyn nets he talked about how he was happy he isnt on a team that isnt undersized anymore.
Premium Member Wretch Posted January 6, 2013 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 6, 2013 I know it's hard to see the forest...when all those trees are in the way. This is what we are missing: Ain't much gonna change until we get one.
Premium Member Diesel Posted January 6, 2013 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 6, 2013 Most championship teams needs a consistent low post scorer. Without that, you need a superstar who can get you more than 25 per. Right now, we don't have either. So without easy buckets or mass buckets, we have a team that has to find the on switch... some nights we don't find it.
MrMeltdown
Josh and Al at 4 and 5 will never work to a championship level and I have to be a man and admit Teague will never work as a starting PG at a championship level. Gray Mule
"When the going gets tough, the tough get going." Last night, 3rd quarter, the Boston beaneaters suddenly turnedinto tough guys. They played, in your face, personal defense. They applied the pressure and the Hawks had no answer. Theycouldn't handle it. And, where was the whistle? You know, while that hot run wasin progress, Atlanta did get to the free throw line some. Not thatit did any good. Smoove FINALLY got one to fall. Celtics scoredand scored and scored and we had one pitiful point. Unbelieveable. Who was guarding Paul Pierce? Answer. No one. We just let himgo and do his thing and he proved, once again, he is a scorer whenno one bothers to try and stop him. If he's touched and no whistle,he cries. Did you see him bump the ref? Yet, nothing happened. "If you can't stand the pressure, get out of the kitchen." In the 3rd quarter Hawks couldn't stand the pressure. The results?PITIFUL. If the Hawks have any tough guys, they were on the benchwhile that hot run was on in the 3rd. We know the starters were onthe floor to begin the 3rd and they were run over. Which team are we? The over achieving one of the first half or thescared little boys team of the third quarter? Free throws? What free throws? Oh, you mean those shots where a Hawk stands on that line and everyone watches them miss? Edited January 6, 2013 by Gray Mule
Premium Member BrazilianHawk Posted January 6, 2013 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) You guys must be blind or maybe didn't even watch the game. I can tell at least a common denominator, something that happened all last season and continues to happen nowadays. It's called "HERO" BALL. A hero for the Celtics, I mean.
