Kyle

Hate to harp on it to the chagrin of Joe's biggest fans.Korver is + .123 in true shooting. Marinate on that one for a minute...Now, only -.4 in assist rate, .8 better TO rate, and + 2.7 rebound rate. We're only a game behind Brooklyn. Let alone the fact even the fair weather fans and transplants in Phillips love the guy. Joe shoots too many threes, Kyle, having clearly mastered the craft, can't shoot enough of em.All at 14.8 million less this year!!!!!!!!!! I don't even know if its a word in economics for that big of a turnaround in value of investment. Turning sh@t into sugar is what we call it in the hood!

For a guy that sees over 95% of his shots created for him via assists, that's great.

Kyle had a fantastic game tonight, and has been shooting lights out for about 4 or 5 games now. The facts are though that he will always be a one dimensional player, because he can't create his own shot.

The sad thing is that a shooter like Korver might have been the difference on those past Hawk playoff teams, when JJ was a 20 - 4 - 4 player . . and Marvin was a highly inconsistent 3 point shooter.

At the end of the day, a swap of JJ and Korver will lead to the same thing for the Hawks . . . a quick playoff exit. Who cares about how much money the team itself saved, if the result is still going to be the same. We need as much talent on this team as possible. And the Hawks flat out refused to do that over the years, for fear of paying significant Luxury Tax.

Real teams pay the tax, because they're going all out to win. Teams like us handicap themselves, because they are deathly afraid of losing that extra NBA money, and having to become a taxpaying team.

I have read here and other web pages that Kyle is unlikely to be a Hawk next year. Why would that be? It seems to me he's a great fit for us and at his pay I don't see why they wouldn't want to sign him again. Is there someplace he would rather be?

Well he wasn't too thrilled about coming here when the Bulls traded him for that trade exception we got from trading away JJ. The main thing is that if we're going to have all of this cap space in the summer, he's one of the guys who we'll probably have to renounce the rights to, to have that cap room.

He'll get picked up by somebody though. To be a low 2nd round pick, he's really carved out a niche for himself as a deadly 3 point specialist. If he'd play for 5 - 6 mill a year for another 3 years, the Hawks may be the team that picks him up.

Korver skill that benefits us the most besides his shooting is his offball movement. when he was on fire and was moving without the ball he commanded so much attention and it opened up the floor for everyone else and we finally started getting some easy points on the inside. That is why his +/- has been the highest on the team.

Having a shooter that can move without the ball is so much beneficial to the team than having joe johnson iso and dribble dribble.

Exactly! I'm lovin' it.

Even Korver knows it:

“When the ones that don’t feel good go in, it’s nice,” Korver said of his game-high 27 point performance. “It was just a good shooting night. … It’s one of those things that when you make some shots you get better screens and you get better passes. They guys did a good job of helping me get open. I don’t create shots on my own. I work off of everybody and just try to play good team basketball.”

Ashton was +8 tonight along with Josh. 17/6/3/2 with only 1 TO, helped lead his team to a win.How did the guy he's replacing do tonight in a huge game you ask? 4-15 in 37 minutes. 16 points (got to the line as much as he normally does in a week), 3 rebounds, 6 assists to 4 TOs, helped lead his team to a ridiculous blowout. NOBODY on Earth is happier that Joe is gone and Korver here than I am. NOBODY. Turning my venomous hate to bro love is a beautiful thing. My quality of life was declining looking forward to 4 more years of that guy. Edited by benhillboy

I *loathed* Korver before this season, and now he's maybe my favorite Hawk.

I love how he reacts after he commits one of his many defensive mistakes. Such a goober.

And if you are into the Wins Produced metrics, Korver's been exactly twice as valuable as Joe. :) [Obviously, yeah, Korver's open a lot more often. But WP doesn't explain the 'why,' just describes the production.]

Not much into wins produced. It seems pretty obvious to me watching the games that Kyle is more valuable to winning basketball than Joe is. Only a blind Joe fan would consider comparing two shooting guards with a .132 difference in true shooting, let alone the guard with the advantage coming at a $14 million discount. I want you to harp on it. Along with others, I had a very frustrating time trying to get the Joe defenders to see the other side of the argument for the last couple of years he was here. From the cries of he's double and triple teamed, to he's more than a contract, to you have to see his value to this organization, blah blah blah! I do not miss the guy one bit. Thanks again Brooklyn!

Korver is the man. I hated him when he played for other teams but love him playing for our Hawks. I'd love to lock him up after this season and hopefully he is starting to enjoy his time in Atlanta and would be open to coming back.

Joe impact was so overrated just because he can score. That is why I didnt want rudy gay at all.. I read an article on why hollinger traded him and he reminds me of joe so much.

His scoring efficiency is below the average

He is a ball stopper.

Takes too many outside shots.

Doesnt go to the freethrow line much.

A "B" level player being paid "A" level money.

Just look at what the grizzlies did 2 years ago when rudy gay was injured and they had shane battier taking all of his mins. They were 1 game away from the west conf finals.

I was switching between the Hawks and Brooklyn last night. I never turn down a chance to see Joe stink it up. They stick the 3 inch shorter, 20 pounds lighter Wade on Joe. No assertion whatsoever. At 240 pounds, his favorite move is jogging to the corner on fast breaks when he isn't bricking fade always that he doesn't need to fade on. No shot blocking whatsoever on Miami, yet he goes 4-15. No shortage of good laughs with that guy on the court. His laziness is amazing. Everything he's ever accomplished in this league is soley due to his perfect frame for a 2 that the average NBA player would've gotten 3 times as much athleticism out of just off effort and hustle. Can you imagine Dwayne Wade 3 inches taller and 20 pounds stronger? How about Michael Jordan plus and inch and 40 pounds? Kobe having 35 extra pounds of muscle in the post? He is the Shaq and LeBron of his position size-wise. 99 out of 100 players in NBA history with Joe's size played the 3, yet he has had the luxury of playing against smaller players night in and out his whole career and became nothing more than an All-Star 12th man, in an era where the talent pool at the 2 in the East was dreadful after Wade! Dude is a total bum. I will forever look back on his Hawks career with total disgust. His big supporters love to forget how we stayed in the lottery before Al got here, yet they'd find everything else to blame for it but our "leader" at the time. Truckload of bull$hit.

I'm starting to think that the foundation of everything this team does is the result of the spacing Kyle commands. When he makes that bounce pass to the diving man when he's doubled for an easy two, the opposing team almost always takes a timeout afterward. Teague and Devin have ample opportunities to drive and push because they have the space to. When Josh and Al post and are eventually doubled, the ball swing around the horn to find the open man runs teams ragged. We force a lot of turnovers, and he helps a grest deal wih active arms and hands. One of the better help defenders you can find. Shows and recovers well. Early congrats on breaking Mookie's streak of threes. Probably the best perimeter player I've ever seen who can't dribble. Love that fu&@in dude. Players are always better off after leaving Thibideau. We need to be lusting after some of their bigs instead of Silly Dwight. The big cardboard faces of he and Ivan throughout Phillips is awesome.

The comparison isn't Joe vs. Kyle. The comparison Marvin vs. Kyle. Give us Kyle during the Marvin years and we would have went to the ECF at least 1 time. Moreover, this is just another distraction from what is the true consistent problem in ATL... Josh Smith vs. BBIQ.

We certainly would have been better, but not that much better as one or multiple of Josh / Al / Joe had a tendency to disappear in the playoffs.

BTW I hate the acronym BBIQ as it makes me think of BBQ and then I'm hungry and then my productivity goes to hell.
