Gray Mule
75 YEARS OF THENCAA TOURNAMENT Soorts Illustrated - - March 6 2013 Today's players in their "Granny Drawers" shorts are shownBrigham Young vs Gonzaga - - - 2011. Check out the other players. That was back when men weren't ashamedto show their legs. You older posters wore these shorts when you playedhigh school or earlier in grammar school. Today's fashion calls for knee pants for the modern players. What happened?Did the gals get tired of seeing above the knees? Or, did they get tired of usseeing their legs and insist that the men go along with it? We all know that the NBA follows this trend. Our Hawks wear these "Granny Drawers"shorts, even when they wear those "Throwback" uniforms. Why? It's not a completeuniform, only the top portion. Anyone know why the "fashion police" dictate this?? Gray Mule
Didn't know that this was something no one would daretalk about. I just think that it's so strange that fashion has changedso much over the years. Sure, I understand why the modernfootball player looks so different than those in days gone by. But, basketball players? And, even when they wear those"Throwback" uniforms for one night, they refuse to changethe bottom half. Gotta wonder why. They change the colorsto match the tops but it stops there.
buckeye242424
I remember Michael Jordan starting this trend, mainly because he used to "tug" on his shorts while playing defense. So, he requested longer shorts. Once that happened, being an icon, people wanted to be like him, so did other NBA teams. Then, once the Fab Five from Michigan bursted onto the scene with their "baggy" shorts, it was over. They were the first to wear black socks while playing basketball as well. Gray Mule
Well, it's Michael Jordan's fault tnen. That would explain it. As MJ goes, so goes the NBA. Too bad he can't turn the Charlotte team into the Heat.I'm sure he would love that!

The president of Nike was quoted while introducing his company's new duds for the NFL that NBA players on average wear more protection and accesories below the waist than football players. What's the point of going to the short shorts if you aren't even going to see the legs but worse, see another pair of shorts sticking out in addition to a slew of pads, sleeves and wraps? TheNorthCydeRises
I played HS basketball and one year of JUCO basketball in those damn shorts. No thank you. When you'd come out of a game and go to the bench, those shorts would literally ride all the way up your thighs. Those were the real "granny drawers", because those shorts were dang near like playing in your boxers. Look at this Dominique top 10 highlight clip. And focus on the shorts. There is such a thing as "too long" though. The Arkansas teams of the mid 90s used to wear ridiculously long shorts. And the main offender of that was sharpshooting guard Alex Dillard, whose shorts damn near went 3 inches below his knees.
