Going back to my earlier post. I believe we'll be packaging to move up or moving those pick for players. There is no way the Hawks start the year with 4 rookies and 2 second year players.

It's possible that they do if the plan is to get a max guy, i.e. Dwight, Paul, etc and need cheaper talent to round out the bench. Maybe the 2nd rounders could be packaged to move up to late 1st/early 2nd to team like LAL or MIA that is lacking picks, but I think Ferry intends to use those first rounders. I have said it too that I wouldn't be surprised if Ferry becomes Dimitroff and goes after his Julio (Porter, Muhammad) or his young center he covets (Zeller, Len). The Pistons have already said that will be listening to offers on their lottery pick. I believe our two firsts for their lottery pick would do the trick.

If Houston did not make play offs they would be getting a pick from 1-14 which are lottery picks then the Hawks would not be getting the pick this year. Since the Rockets are in playoffs we get the pick which will be based on overall team standing.

The more vids I watch and articles I read on Archie Goodwin, the more I hope Atlanta avoids drafting him... Another example of a guy jumping to the NBA way too soon. Just like his fellow alumni Marquis Teague... McCollum on the other hand, oh boy. Dieng also looks like he could be the next Larry Sanders type break out player. I'll take them both!

As a UK fan, I wish Archie Goodwin the best but don't want him on the Hawks. Hopefully, he will get better control and refinement in the NBA than he had in college and become a star but I fear he will be a Jordan Crawford type (low efficiency, high volume).

It's funny that you compare him to Jordan Crawford because that is exactly who I thought about when I was watching vids on him. The guy really thinks he is better than he is. Could have used another year at UK.

In fairness to him, UK didn't have a lot of scoring talent last year. Nerlens wasn't a guy who could create offense. The PG position was worthless. Poythress was too Marvin-esque timid. Wiltjer was very skilled offensively but frequently wasn't willing to take anything other than a clearly good shot.

That left Goodwin as the primary option wayyyyyyy too often. Wiltjer should have asserted himself and I expected more from Poythress in terms of assertiveness as well. Other guys just weren't capable of it.

Well damn!....this whole time I been rooting that Houston makes the playoffs because I thought that would give the hawks a protected 14 pick! But it's the other way around!Damn! Damn! Damn!!!!!!PsI would like to apologize to all hawk fans I was only rooting for Houston to make the playoffs because I thought it would give the hawks a 14 lottery protected pick! Man do I feel stupid!

No need to feel stupid because rooting for them is what we were all doing so we could be assured to get the 1st round pick THIS year. If Houston didn't make playoffs we would have had to wait until next year and hope they make playoffs then or same thing would happen-no pick. The 1st round pick was protected for a number of years then it would have become a 2nd rounder by 2015 (I think). Edited by JayBirdHawk

LOL yeah I realize that after doing some research. well i guess we are all hoping they fall back to the 8th seed for higher picks but unfortunately LA sucks too bad for that to happen. so it is what it is! look at it this way we got 2 first round draft picks!....not bad, not bad at all.

I can' t comment on Gobert or Nogueir b/c I have not seen enough of them.I personally like Dieng and Whitney. They each share the same strengths as defensive shot blocking specialist. Whitney has a defensive veteran mind. He never goes for pump fakes and waits the offender to leave his feet before he does. That mAy sound simple but he has an uncanny ability of avoiding fouls. They pump fakes get a lot of centers in foul trouble. He is faster in his straight line sped but not so quick in terms of lateral quickness defending pick and rolls. He has a decent hook and mid range jumper. He is best at protecting the rim without fouling. He has pretty good hands as well.He is 23 yrs old. So what you see is what you get but what you see is a smart defensive specialist. He has a good motor for a big man who does not need much rest.I like Dieng a little more then Whitney. He is a 23 year old sophomore after moving to the US recently. He is still skinny but has gained a lot of weight since moving to the US and has not played basketball long. He is reported to have a 7'6'm wingspan. His hands are not great and he really struggles to finish with contact in the paint......mainly due to his hands. He has developed good jump shot and can finish high above the rim when there is no physical contact. He is elite defensively......a pure specialist in that area. He is not as fast as Whitney in term of straight line speed when running the floor but he has better lateral quickness with defending the perimeter and pick and rolls. He also has a good motor for a big man. His passing has also improved greatly. He still has room to grow due to not playing the game long.Adams is physically gifted but the most raw of all of them. He has a lot of developing to do on offense but has time to do it at 19 years of age. He would be best served developing another year at Pitt but with them firing their coach he will probably turn pro. I was really looking forward to seeing him play Olynyk I round 2 of the playoffs before Wichita St took them both down. He is so raw his future is strictly based on work ethic and playing time. He has more potential then both Whitney and Dieng but also has more risk. How much you like him is dependent on your risk tolerance.Olynyk intriguing. He has a big body and like to bang in the post.......but never saw guys as big as he was. That is why I wanted wee home vs Adams in the 2nd round to gage them both. He is not fast or quick but he is fundamentally sound. He is easily the best offensive post player on the list. However, he has also faced the weakest competition. 1 on 1 workouts will mean more with him then anyone else. I want to see how is standing reach, wingspan, and vertical match up with the field as well as his workouts against other 1st round centers before finalizing a grade on him.McGrary really came on late in the season. I bet he is only 6'9'' and may have to play PF. He reminds me a lot of Brad Miller with his unselfish passing. He is almost too unselfish. He has. Nice mid range game and uses his wide body well in the paint. At 19 he has a lot of developing to do. I don't want to go to raw but he has a little Kevin Love in him to an extent. ....but there is only 1 Kevin love who rebounds like that......but like Love he gets the absolute most out of the athletic ability and wide body that he does have.A little to early to give rankings.......have to see the measurement And workout results.Excuse the typos....this was done on my wife's iPad and I don't have her password to download tap talk with spell check.

McGary said he's coming back to Michigan so you can count him out this year.To the topic, don't we also have the right this year and maybe next to swap 1st round picks with the Nets? Not that we'd do it now with them having the better record but was this rumor ever confirmed?

I guess we can't edit post anymore.

Post edit time hasn't been changed in a couple of years. Only thing that would have changed would be if you went from a squawk supporter to a standard member, which I believe changes edit time from 30 or maybe 60 minutes for supporters to I think 10 minutes for standard members.

Yes I know we have the right to switch 1st with the Nets this year but I'm not sure how long we hold that option. I too would like to confirm how long we have that option.

Gotcha ......time for me to upload some funds.

when editing, choose the option to use the full editor and it needs to be completed fairly quickly, like within 3-5 minutes of the original post.

I guess we can't edit post anymore.Just wanted to add Olynyk is the best ball handling center in the draft. Not that important of a trait for a true center but it is a strength of his.

I still feel that we can use our two picks to move up into the lottery if there is somebody that we really like. It should be a really interesting draft.

I'm going to trust Ferry with deciding whetether we need depth or one good player.

whatever big we go after I just want him to be a legit sized center that is able to impact the game defensive,on the glass, and plays in the paint. That is all.

I can deal with him not being good offensively.

I just dont want to have him being a soft jumpshooting center that hangs out on the perimeter all game.

Thanks for the breakdown Coachx ...the way you described them, I like Dieng the most for Hawks. But I guess we will see how per draft workouts go and whether or not we trade up. I'm excited.
