GameTime
So do ya'll think it is better for us, (as far as the hunt for Paul/Howard goes), if the Spurs win this series or the Heat? If the Heat win, they will seem to be a dominant force that can only be beaten by the best of the best which could lead Paul and Howard to joinging forces in Atlanta. If the Spurs win, it's a good look for Coach Bud and the Spurs culture that we are attempting to bring to Atlanta. It shows that the Spurs know the recipe to defeating the Heat and Coach Bud will have played a solid role in the victory. It really is a win-win for us.
hazer
LOVE that the Spurs took game 1. My view is that it's to the Hawks' advantage for SA to win it all since that'll show CP3 and D12 that the system in place in SA, co-coached by Bud, that defeated the mighty 3, will be implemented in ATL. And that the new big 3 of them plus Horf would destroy the east. And the west... Edited June 7, 2013 by hazer

I really thought the Heat would take game 1 because of the long rest that the Spurs were on, but Pop had that team ready to go. It will be interesting to see if the Heat rebound from this loss once again. They haven't lost back to back games in a long while.
TheNorthCydeRises
I thought this forum was made up of true basketball fans........I see that is not the case........just a bunch of Hawk homers. I must say I'm a little surprised. It does make me give less thought on the opinions of people's draft Opinions. If you don't even watch the Finals then you probably watched very little college basketball.Miami is getting their usual favorable calls. Wade got an obvious charge drawn by Duncan.....they blew the whistle on Duncan......contributing to 2 early fouls. What makes it even worse was that Wade was passing the ball........yet the shitty refs gave Wade a shooting foul. Duncan re-enters with 7:55 left in the 2nd quarter to score 12 points to finish off the half. You guys missed a great 1st half. It reminds me of the 2004 Olympics when USA got the bronze. Team ball vs superstar athletes. May the best team win. I've always believed that people around here loved and watched the Hawks without hesitation . . . but they didn't watch the rest of the league. You can see it in some of the comments they have about good players, that they really don't follow the rest of the NBA all that closely. A lot of fans are like that though. Parker's play down the stretch of that game was MVP worth. I thought he was a borderline Hall of Fame guy that would eventually get in, but if they can beat the Heat in this series, and he wins an MVP award while doing it, he'll almost be a 1st ballot lock for the Hall of Fame. That would be 4 titles for him, and 2 Finals MVP awards.

benhillboy
Reports of a LeBron Wade dust up in the locker room afterwards. They usually do the press conference together, but Wade declined and came out late. Pressure is getting to those pipes I see. Gotta love playoff basketball. The Spurs driving em crazy already. You can see that Wade has started imploding lately because he's not the player that he used to be and this is clearly Lebron's team now.
DJlaysitup
Well it's just the first game - but I really wouldn't expect the Spurs to lose BOTH at home - so we are at least looking at 2-2 and a probable seven game series. That is unless MIA manages to lose the next game in which case they will be in deep doo-doo.. I can't help thinking of the Sports Illustrated cover here recently that showed Lebron defending all five positions. I thought - yeah wow - he really can - the only problem he runs into would be a really quick PG and a long talented big man (both of which the Spurs have). But realistically, they don't have 5 Lebrons so their other guys have to get the job done. ...and to be fair, that game could have gone either way so....we will see. Commenting late on Parker's shot at the end - I would have bet fifty bucks that it would be an airball off the glass the way he had to hustle just to get it off in time and then that he was leaning in. How he put the touch on that shot to make it that high off the glass was just awesome. I've watched the replay a dozen times and every time I expect the ball to miss My head says it might be better for us if MIA wins - but - GO SPURS !! Premium Member sturt Posted June 8, 2013 Premium Member Report Share Posted June 8, 2013 (edited) Not if you want Dwight and CP3 to think that the only way to win a title is by forming a big 3. There's plenty of logic behind that as a Hawk fan to support hoping the Heat win. That's one way to think about it... Another way is to think that the bigger the Spurs finish, the bigger the regard for our incoming coach. Moreover, I think that the "big 3" theory doesn't exactly need any further evidence that it's a substantial strategy. Besides... cheering for Miami is like cheering for the casino... they're supposed to win, right? =================== Dang... hazer stole that thunder... shoulda just liked his post. Some of you had done really good points on this and had me almost convinced but I think this one put me over the top. Now I want a substantial blowout sweep of the Heat!! Go Spurs!!!

The 2-3-2 is even a bigger advantage for the home court team IMO since it's hard to win 3 in a row at home. NBA - RRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Premium Member Popular Post sturt Posted June 8, 2013 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted June 8, 2013 First game of NBA Finals should be at a predetermined neutral site. That ensures no home court advantage, but also provides NBA a chance to pre-sell tickets and make a big promotion for game 1. Then, if I'm Hoops Czar... the loser gets games 2 and 3... winner games 4 and 5 (thus providing the winner of the first game with the first mathematical opportunity to win the series on their home floor)... loser gets game 6... winner gets game 7. Same should be done in baseball, incidentally. Disclaimer... not my original idea... first I ever read of it was when this was proposed for the World Series by your good friend and mine, Mr. Scott Boras.

benhillboy
Did anyone notice this during Game 1? I didn't see that one. He did another one but it traveled about 5 feet further and passed by two defenders. The Miami defense plays the angles, so this fool is defying geometry. He's the best pitcher of a basketball. Seriously though we've all seen Josh make some amazing passes like that before too, but Manu does it on the regular and without turning it over as much.
