Moderators Popular Post lethalweapon3 Posted July 2, 2013 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted July 2, 2013 Where were YOU on 7-2? ----------------------------------------------------------- "Is your face stuck in that position, or...?" I was at a coffee shop after classes, rolling through my Twitter feed for random free agent news about guys like Jeremy Lin, O.J. Mayo, Michael Beasley, and JaVale McGee. Ho-hum.Then, THIS popped up... Tweet Added - Refresh Page to see it live!If you don't see the Tweet here AFTER REFRESHING PAGE, then it wasn't entered correctly. I think I gasped aloud. "This is actually happening? Is this even possible?", I was asking myself. It was as if a mathematician had discovered the final digit of Pi, and the skies above had suddenly turned lime green. I was in the middle of triple-checking the spelling of W-o-j-n-a-r-o-w-s-k-i to make sure I wasn't getting played by a fake account ("is it @wojnbayahoo, or @yahoowojnba?"), when the barista kindly came over to see if I wasn't suffering from caffeine shock or something. I briefly explained what I was reading, but got a reaction from her like, "Really? Basketball in July? Are you thoroughly hopeless, or what?" Clearly not a sports fan, much less a Hawks fan, she seemed a bit disappointed that I could make the same face she would make if something truly important happened like, say, One Direction announced they were breaking up and joining a monastery. I scurried back home to share the news with Squawkers and people who would remotely care. "This is unreal! How did this Ferry guy pull this off? Who did we get? Did we get MarShon? Oh, who am I kidding, who cares?" I was definitely going to miss Joe's occasional heroics, but the sense of inertia this franchise overcame by getting out from under his contract had me feeling a kind of bewildered euphoria. Much like another July day, words like freedom!, liberty!, and independence! were gleefully uttered from fans of the Red, Silver and Blue, as news of the haul of short-term contracts received in return were rolling in. "I mean, the next thing you know, we might even be able to ship out... wait, what's that?" Maybe I need to lie down!" 7-2-2012 was a glorious day for this franchise, one that gave a fanbase weary of middling (at best) playoff exits hope for brighter days. Happy Hawks Independence Day! Where were you on 7-2? ~lw3

Moderators lethalweapon3 Posted July 2, 2013 Author Moderators Report Share Posted July 2, 2013 I cannot recall what I was doing that day, but that could be because of the celebration I had that night for the events. A common declaration heard all around Trillville package stores that evening: "Sorry, we're all out of Rumple Minze!" ~lw3

buckeye242424
When I heard, and read the news, I was indifferent. Maybe even sad, in a way. Though we didn't do anything significant with Joe, he changed everything for us. 5 time-all star... whatever. You guys know. It was a great move for us moving forward, but when I heard it, I wasn't throwing my hands in the air. I knew we're starting over. Marvin, don't feel sorry for him cause he's set for life, but way too high expectations, and didn't pan out. It happens. Another good move by DF.
Moderators PSSSHHHRRR87 Posted July 3, 2013 Moderators Report Share Posted July 3, 2013 (edited) It was truly one of the best days in Atlanta Hawks history. When my TeamStream app gave me the notification, I had a mini celebration and couldn't login into Hawksquawk fast enough. I was in Memphis that day, at the Saab dealer with my brother to get his radio reactivated. Then we got into the car and drove off. Not a minute later as we were driving to Firehouse Subs, my phone bleeps and tells me we traded duck butt for Devin Harris. I was elated. The first thought I had when the news of Joe's trade came through was: "Thank God we don't have to wait another three years to dump his sorry ass contract! Viva los Hawks!" That's the day when I began to believe in Ferry and the Atlanta Hawks again. Edited July 3, 2013 by PSSSHHHRRR87

I haven't seen one of those since the early 90's.

I would think you'd want to drive a truck on the unpaved 2 lane highways of Mississippi :) I joke of course but I'll never forget the many memorable stops at the combination gas station / grocery store / bait shop / barber shop along I-10 traveling back and forth between Texas and North Carolina when I was stationed there. I'd never seen anything like it in my life.
