Kyle Korver RE-SIGNS with HAWKS 4 yr $24 million

Batum had 1.9 defensive win shares last season. That's not a "top notch defender". BTW, Korver had 2.5 defensive win shares last season.

Batum got votes for ALL DEFENSIVE team when he has two of the best defenders in league at his postion ahead of him

If we truly intend to tank, we can ship out Horford before the season, then wiggle Korver for a desperate contender later, and fait accompli. There's no point in worrying about Kyle winning unnecessary games when we've still got an occasional All-Star big on the payroll.

We do need a thread for us pro-tankers to share our tankerrific 2013-14 Hawks rosters! Complete with ScrubMin contracts!

In the meantime, in between time... Great signing, Danny!

~lw3

Agreed lw3...too many posters think that tanking is like just quitting in a foot race...it's not that simple.

Tanking has to bet set up. Players can't be told to just "not try". They will all try since they want future contracts. There is a lot of strategy in effectively tanking and you have to have it in place before they start the season.

You have to pick the guys who - even when they try thier best - suck worse than the other team's guys - who have been picked by the other tanking team for the same reason.

We definitely need a thread.

He is a better man-on-man defender, sure. He doesn't get significantly more rebounds than Korver, or steals.

Korver's offense is so efficient, regardless of what role he's used in, that he contributes more offensively.

You could argue that if Korver had the ball in his hands more, he'd fail to 'create' (whatever that means -- I think that's a myth, TBH) and turn it over at the much higher rate that Batum does. But Korver, when used in a role that maximizes his abilities, is incredibly valuable. Batum hasn't shown any of that yet.

How about Batum also avg 4.9 assist this season as well

That and a handful of bread will help you to feed ducks at the park. Big whoop! Jeff Teague had the 4th most 20 point and 10 assists games in the NBA last year and I think he had 1 vote for most improved player or something like that. So that pretty much means squat to me.

This is how I read the beans:

DFerry has decided that we either get Dwight, Jefferson, or Bynum.

We play Al at the 4.

We need shooters to open up the floor for our bigs. Korver.

The contract is right on the money. Korver is no baby or no defensive stallworth but he tries.

In my mind, I think this opens the gates for my dream:

Teague

Mayo

Korver

Horf

Howard.

I know the board is filled with Teague haters and Smoove Lovers and there will be commentation. However, my point is that:

A cheaper OJ is better than a questionable Iggy.

I sure hope its not Jefferson.

We didn't have a liability on defense with Korver. We had a liability at coach with Drew. You can bet that Budenholzer will never, ever try and defend Paul George with Kyle Korver.

BTW Garcia is a 36% 3pt shooter for his career. Korver is a 42% 3pt shooter for his career. Some of you guys are really not understanding how much of a difference that actually is. To put that into perspective, Josh Smith is a 29% career 3pt shooter who shot 30% last year. So Garcia / Dunleavy are roughly 6ish percent better than Josh, who we know is a horrible 3pt shooter and Korver is 6ish percent better than those guys. You can kinda see what I'm saying here, right?

When you have to make an effort to put Korver on the worse offensive player; that means he is a liability. Like I said I don't know Danny's entire plan yet so I can't comment on it; But this is a bit underwhelming IMO. Just expressing how I feel. I know Korver is a great shooter, elite even; But I feel he would be more useful with a contender; BUT HEY MAYBE THAT IS US; CMON FRIDAY Posted Image

I don't have a dog in this fight but I couldn't help myself. Couldn't I find a youtube clip of KK's best highlights as well. Just don't know what a highlight reel does for this argument. Everyone has highlight reels, I think stats are a better argument. JMO.

That highlght reel alone shows what KORVER could never DO ...create his own SHOT Posted Image

Yeah, I'd really take a career 42% 3pt shooter making $6 million to be a 3pt shooting specialist over a career 37% 3pt shooter who makes $10 million.

42% > 37%

$6 > $10

But I could make a reel of him making more 3's than Batum, right?

Damn, walk away from the computer for a short bit and this.

I think a lot of us are happy just because it's action and now hope the waterfall starts.

But this doesn't mean Dwight is coming here at all. However it definitely can't hurt him seeing us making moves and adding a 3 point shooter while he's thinking about it.

I know you're watching Dwight. I know you're enticed playing next to Horford and Korver on the outside. Come on big fella, you know you want to come home. Just pick up the phone.....theeere ya go, now dial the 7 digits.

Regardless a good piece to the puzzle.

so being a complete player doesnt matter to you ? like defense and distrbutes ,rebounds , steals and BLK shots

all you care about is 3pt shooting and effiecency ?

Also Batum is younger and MUCH higher ceiling

If you asked any GM in league who would they rather have and at salaries .,..every gm imo would take Batum

Yeah Batum, who has has his win shares per 48 look like this [.181 > .126 > .127 > 0.99 last year] since peaking in his 2nd season, has such a high ceiling!

And yes, for a 3pt shooting specialist, all I care about is 3pt shooting and efficiency. Oh and it doesn't hurt if the guy plays excellent team defense either.

I picked a bad time to go out of town to a place with horrible service. It takes forever to go through these threads, so I'm sorry if I missed something.I think it's a great signing! I get why it seems weird, nobody thought he'd be our first signing. Especially when there was a bag with Korver in it somewhere in Brooklyn. He may be a one trick pony, but his trick is one of the best ones out there. His shooting won us games, kept us in games and probably had the other coach wondering about how to finish games knowing he could get us 9 points in a minute. I hope it means we have more coming..I doubt he'd be otherwise. Either way though, I'm glad he is back.

I'm guessing Korver won't have to travel in a bag anymore now that he's making $24 million! First class he here comes!

but one guy can create his own shot and not have to rely on screens and baseline picks ..

that 3 pt specialist is just that ....nothing more

The young SF with room to grow does EVERYTHING including defense , 3pt and rebounds and steals and blocks and also had 4.9 assist and ceiling is still growing

He has been on a bad team oif he was on a playoff team you would hear his name up there in same ball park as George and Leonard
