frosgrim
Even if the current rumor isn't completely "real", there is a lot of smoke around Asik to the Hawks. I believe Ferry does want Asik but not at the price the Rockets are asking. Moray was trying to get a huge return in December on Asik and no GM bit on a bidding war. At the same time, Ferry can be very patient with getting Asik as he knows this isn't a win now season. Instead, he can sit back and let the deal come to us. As for this current 3-way rumor makes sense for all the teams involved, so I wouldn't shoot it down. I would also say Asik is only one of probably two or three moves Ferry will make. I would be very surprised if Lou Williams and Korver are still on the team on Feb 21. Those guys are at close to max value right now and there are several playoff teams that could really use them. frankthetank966
I disagree. Asik is a poor fit offensively, other than setting picks and getting offensive rebounds he is useless. Defensively he is overrated. It may have been Chicago's defensive system that made him look good because it has not carried over to Houston. His rebounds would be a welcome sight. Asiks best fit for the Hawks is as a specialist who rebounds and sets picks. Not worth Millsap (I know we are not discussing him here) and I question if he is worth adding to our cap for next year because we would really only have the exceptions left after adding him and our picks.I agree with you completely. I used to watch Asik and wonder why everyone though so highly of him. He did well with CHI b/c Tibidou and DRose and Deng. He would not do very well here. Those who keep saying we need a big, isn't Gortat a free-agent after this year?

hawkrule152
Is Asik worth the $8,374,646 on his contract next season, and whatever is left on it this season? I mean, who the hell knows whats really going on? Are we trying to rebuild? We cant be trying to rebuild gaining that salary, and not to mention, we WILL be the team giving away a draft pick. There's never a time when a legitimate 7 footer who can rebound, defend doesn't fit. You went back to Chicago. What about Last year with Houston? Last year, he put up ~10 points, 12 boards and 1 bpg while shooting 54%. This is not Chris Mihm we're talking about.
Premium Member sturt Posted January 3, 2014 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 3, 2014 I'm slower to make that assumption... seems to me the pick is all that Houston's actually getting out of the deal, and if it were simply a matter of cutting loose a bad contract, hard to see why a deal wouldn't have already been struck earlier. Im not worried about that….Ferry isn't stupid…that pick if its coming from us, it will not be this years potential lottery pick. Houston wants to rob teams I get that, they have shown that but when they are able to get out of two bad contracts in one trade I bet they are least concerned about that draft pick. Plus they are in win now mode.No team is going to hand houston everything they want and Im sure they aren't going to mess up a trade that gets them out of two poison pill contracts in one trade….just aint happening. ATLSmith
Can we please get rid of Sheldon Mack. Dude is terrible Blasphemy!!!!!
TheFuzz
I really don't see why Houston would deal Lin unless they're getting a PG back. People talk about Lin like he's a scrub but he's every bit as good as Teague IMO (both are good PGs is what I mean). Asik is decent but I'm not a huge fan of his fit here. We like having two bigs who can score and pass. If the price is low sure.

frosgrim
I like Asik on the Hawks as part of a longer-term solution to this franchise. He works very well with the team if we can get a dynamic wing player. This means if we get him this season we shouldn't rush to conclusions about what his eventual value to the team will be. I agree with D, what doesn't fit about a rebounding, shot-blocking 7'er? Your offense won't run through him, but so what? We can use him to set wicked screens and get our shooters free. Guest
Who is Sheldon Mack? If he is related to Alvin Mack then there is no way that he is bad. Go Eastern State University Timberwolves!
Guest
Who is Sheldon Mack? Tell you what Bob, he's the guy who needs to step up and possibly even guard Derek Niwinsky on a switch and just stay with what he can do and get the Hawks some good nimbers-Nique

Guest
I don't care if it's Shelton or Sheldon, he stinksWhy exactly do you not like about him. Granted he isn't anything flashy but he is steady, runs the offense, can shoot a bit and more importantly DOES NOT TURN THE BALL OVER,
JRid
I just read this on rotoworld "The Rockets now expect to keep Omer Asik (knee, thigh) past the trade deadline, according to CBS Sports. It's not a surprise with teams not ready to commit to the asking price of general manager Daryl Morey. Asik has been out due to a knee injury and there has really been no timetable for his return. If the Rockets do indeed keep him, it would help Terrence Jones' value. Fantasy owners can leave Asik on the wire in most leagues. Jan 3 - 2:40 PM" http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nba/1533/omer-asik
