For the second consecutive deadline, the Hawks used an open roster spot --- they'll first have to either waive Cartier Martin a day before his 10-day contract ends or another player -- to make some quick cash. Technically, they send the Clippers the rights to 2005 second-round pick Cenk Akyol, who is an extreme long shot to ever play in the NBA.

It took a 45-point win over the Philadelphia 76ers for Jamison to get on the floor in the last month. At this point, his defensive limitations are too great for him to be part of an NBA rotation, so the Clippers save the luxury-tax bill they were due to pay on Jamison's salary and open up a second spot on the roster. Consider them first in line for any big men that get bought out after the deadline.

It is disappointing that there won't be a 2nd round pick involved but extra cash is better than nothing.
