Any Guesses for Opening Night of 2014-15 Season?

So this past season, the NBA opened up on October 29th, a Tuesday (http://www.basketballinsiders.com/key-nba-dates/). The NBA typically opens up on a Tuesday around Halloween. Since 1999 (latest I went back), the earliest that the NBA opened up their season was on October 26th (2010) and the latest was November 2nd (1999 and 2004), excluding the lockout. That puts the NBA opening up on Tuesday October 28th this year.

The Hawks opened up at Dallas on October 30th (a Wednesday) and then opened at home on Friday November 1st (against Toronto). http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2013_games.html This is not unusual for the Hawks, as over the past years they have typically had a weekend game during opening week:

Home Openers:

2012 Friday November 2nd http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2013_games.html (first)

2011 Wednesday December 28th (lock-out) http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2012_games.html (1st on a Tuesday)

2010 Saturday October 30th http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2011_games.html (1st two games away on Wednesday and Friday)

2009 Wednesday October 28th http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2010_games.html (first, then played at home that Friday)

2008 Saturday November 1st http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2009_games.html (1st away on a Wednesday)

2007 Friday November 2nd http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2008_games.html (first)

2006 Friday November 3rd http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2007_games.html (1st away on a Wednesday)

2005 Tuesday November 8th http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2006_games.html (note: opened up with 3 straight on the West Coast, then played the Lakers at home...)

2004 Tuesday November 9th http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2005_games.html (note: opened up with 3 straight on the West Coast, then played the Cavs with LeBron James...I caught his headband that game and sold it to some moron for $100 in the stands)

2003 Saturday November 1st http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2004_games.html (1st two on the road)

2002 Thursday October 31st http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2003_games.html (1st away)

2001 Thursday November 1st http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2002_games.html (1st away)

2000 Tuesday October 31st http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2001_games.html (2nd game was away)

So the Hawks typically have a home opener on a Weekend. Which has me thinking that the Hawks may be similar to the Milwaukee Buck, who have opened the past 29 seasons on the road because they request their home opener to be on a Weekend. The Hawks aren't that extreme, but I bet they do push for that ever so slightly.

I am going out on a limb and saying the Hawks open up on the road that Wednesday, and have their home opener on Friday (Oct. 31) or Saturday.

Wednesday Oct. 29th Hawks@Blazers or Grizz

Friday Oct. 31 Nets or Pacers@ Hawks

I could see Wednesday as a Grizz, I don't think we go out and play the Blazers though. We typically play the Blazers on a 3+ game road trips. Which now makes me think about looking at our typical Western conference road trips...I bet we almost always play the Blazers and Warriors within a game of each other.

But for those who must know an didn't ask, the reason why I did this research extravaganza is because I am trying to figure out if it is worth it to fly down to Atlanta for opening night. Originally I just wanted to figure out what day to pick since there is a dirt cheap $49 flight for me today only, but I thought I'd share my dorky research.

If you actually hold out on buying those tix to Atlanta until July, I think that Southwest offers a nerd month special where you might get the tix for $39, thus saving $10.

I was excited when i read the title of the thread because i thought people were going to be guessing at who would be on the roster on opening night.

This.... eh, not nearly as interesting.
