NBASupes
I got word that Melo has us in his top five: 1. Bulls 2. Rockets 3. Knicks 4. Hawks 5. Mavs BUT... Bad news is Melo has Bulls clearly at #1 and wants to go there but he wants Gibson there with him. He wants the Bulls to keep all of their assets and just use the picks and Boozer for his SnT. The Knicks aren't interested they would have to pay so much over the tax with Boozer and can't trade him for value to another team which is good news. More good news is the Knicks are interested in a SnT for Melo but they value him highly. Want pieces they can move and picks. They want to clear some salary and get prospects which is good news for us since we got salary. The Rockets could offer a SnT of James Harden which is extremely unlikely but the Knicks will be interested as would anyone. We are ahead of the Mavs which is good news. I would say our chances aren't grim and but aren't likely. As for Lebron. We aren't in his top five: 1. Heat 2. Cavs 3. Rockets 4. Knicks 5. Nets He wants to play in a big market. He wants to play with another superstar and he wants a supporting cast. For the most part are chances at Lebron are as strong as Melo willingness to be a Hawk. If Melo becomes a Hawk, we can get Lebron. If he doesn't, he won't. It's that simple. He wants to play with Melo but if he can't Miami and Cleveland are his two top teams. He would like the Rockets to move Harden and get Melo if he was to join the Rockets. It seems as if the NY teams are just there. No real shot. Just there. For Atlanta to get Lebron, they would have to get Melo. Atlanta will have to really hit the nail in their recruiting pitches because Lebron is likely to stay or go home and Melo's heart in is Chicago. That's the good news and bad news. It sucks because I felt Lebron would be a hell of a fit with Sap and Horf anchoring the way. He just isn't interested like that although he respect the Hawks and Coach Bud. If we could convince Melo, that could change the game for us majorly.
IheartVolt
If we are sending All in a sign in trade to anyone it better be Minnesota and not New York
NBASupes
If we are sending All in a sign in trade to anyone it better be Minnesota and not New York Al is not getting traded. Too valuable of a piece, plays center, Melo and Bron doesn't, and we need him because Melo and Bron tend to move worse than Korver off the ball and having two players who are great off the ball is vital when you have Melo and Bron on the court. GS and Minny deal is basically a done deal. Just tinkering the deal. Edited June 25, 2014 by nbasupes40retired
bird_dirt
Funny you list Knicks on both lists. I haven't heard them mentioned anywhere else yet, but yesterday I was talking to someone about this and I figured them to be in the top 5 if the two were to become a package deal. My thought was Lakers and Heat 1 & 2, then Mavs, Hawks, and Knicks 3-5 in no particular order. I know they'd have a lot of maneuvering to do (like any team would), but I could see it in the NBA driven storylines with the Zen master coming in and immediately working magic. NBASupes
I would be shocked if Melo is a Hawk. I wouldn't be. It's possible but it's unlikely. Chicago is really not about to bulge and neither is the Knicks. They want movable assets and picks. Not Boozer. New York holds cards for Chicago and Houston. We are the only team with the Mavs where they don't hold cards. We can get Melo without their help. It's possible. If Chicago didn't need a SnT, I would count us out. The Knicks are popular, a lot of stars want to play there but I think it's more of a mention then anything. Bron isn't going to NY.

Of course he would be better to be moved for Love but Love isn't available as he is about to a Warrior within a couple of weeks.

Plainview1981
The Hawks are going to end up with crap Deng or an even lesser player and we will be told that they fit the smart player mindset and all of that shit. That's just the way that it is. None of these guys are coming to the Hawk so lets focus on the draft and a 2nd tier free agent...You know, "The Spurs way" I'm tired of hearing about the Spurs here. They drafted Tim Duncan with the number 1 pick and if that does not happen they have nothing. There is no real comparison. Mentioning the Spurs here is like mentioning the Pistons when we had Smoove and Joe. We didn't have enough talent then and we really don't now. We just have a much better system and the fit isn't horrible.

Lebron will sign where he feels he has the best chance to win now and for the future. That is why Cleveland is so highly rated when he really knows they aren't that close. The Hawks have the future pieces, their now isn't that impressive.

Duncan isn't even an all Star anymore so please stop with all the Duncan talk. He was their second leading scorer in the playoffs, the leading rebounder and leading shot blocker. His presence out there makes him a big threat. He makes a difference on the defensive side. He was still the best player when they won their titles before. Honestly, If the Spurs had never draft Duncan, we can't even be sure that Pop would have lasted as coach. NBASupes
Wait, I'm not following the bolded portion. You're saying he views Cleveland's future as being brighter or ours? Easily. Why, I don't know his reasoning. I know mines. I just know he likes Kyrie a lot.

Tied with Robin Lopez in rebounding.
Moderators AHF Posted June 25, 2014 Moderators Report Share Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) Get real with the Spurs. Hotlanta is 100% right. The Spurs would have 0 championships without Duncan and 5 with him. I love people crapping on him on this thread. One of the top 10 players of all time. Led team in the playoffs this year in Win Shares and PER (in addition to the other items mentioned by Hotlanta). But he is totally replacable with Robin f'ing Lopez. Get real. http://youtu.be/DwhW0qSm5zI?t=1m54s Edited June 25, 2014 by AHF
