What about Marvin Williams?

PR hit? Like people are going to stop going to games if we bring Marvin back?? We were 28th in attendance last season. And the expectation of him living up to be a great player because he's a former #2 pick, is long gone.

Maybe that's the GMs plan though. Bring in a bunch of players that the fan base has no great expectations for, so if they play decent, the fan base will love them.

Or maybe, and this may completely blow your mind, but maybe if your whole schtick is "this ain't the ole Hawks" then perhaps it helps to not field the same ole Hawks on the court.

That's our shtick?

I thought our shtick was "Spurs East" or "don't let the ball stick"? I didn't know it was "get rid of all former Hawks that reminded us of the oh so horrible years of the Billy Knight/Joe Johnson era."

Well dang. That means Jeff Teague and Al Horford will soon be gone.

Forget that Marvin might just be the ideal cheap SF that our beloved GM is looking for. Can't bring him back because he's simply a reminder of all of those underachieving iso playing Hawks playoff squads that lost to better teams in the playoffs.

Oh wow, you really go the distance trying to portray the late 00s as if they were worth a damn.  A team full of high lotto picks and overpaid tertiary stars with a grand total of two 2nd round wins during their entire tenure WOOO HOOOOOOOOOO THOSE WERE THE DAYS!

How was attendance and local profile over these halcyon days?

How was the national profile?

No, the schtick is to move away from the myriad of dysfunctional, disrespected and underachieving squads throughout the decade plus of Atlanta history.  To establish the franchise as a respectable operation rather than the circus show of botched draft picks, owner infighting, historical playoff losses, and comedic contracts that had every non-Atlanta fan (and quite a few of us too) and broadcaster moan anytime they had the unfortunate event of having one of our games televised.

Ferry was universally lauded for dumping two of the biggest black eyes on the franchise's face and it's your idea to bring one back?   People still remember Sam Bowie yet you claim (and it's hard not to laugh at this shit) that people have forgotten the circumstances around Marvin's draft selection..........really now?

I think it would be great for Hawksqwuak  We've missed the Marvin bashing threads, the lamenting over passing up on Paul and Williams, and the goofy Atlscrublove "Not Highlights" vids he inspired.  Brining him back would remind of us those golden days when Billy Knight would only draft guys that were 6'9" no matter what our needs were.  The Nostalgia would be so much fun to talk about.  It would truly be a walk down repressed memory lane.

  • 2 weeks later...

Wouldn't Diesel love to have Marvin here again so he would have

that "extra" reason to post here!

Marvin isn't and never was a great player.  Having said that, he was

and even now if a fairly good player and, if his contract is cheap enough

and the Hawks have exhausted other options, bring him back.

We're a different team than we were when he was here, with a different

coach and assistant coaches who would know how to best use Marvin.
