Although I'm sure we have the most playoff games shown on NBA TV by a wide margin.  We have a good opportunity to make a statement on a major network.  Really want us to shine tomorrow.

The Joe Johnson Hawks probably got throttled by Lebron the last time we were on ABC in the 2nd round.

Trivial Trivia!

While coaching in 2001, current ABC broadcaster Jeff Van Gundy was the victim of a punch from Marcus Camby -- his own player. Camby was retaliating after getting elbowed by WHO?

So anyone care to explain to me why the Hawks who are a number 1 seed got screwed and have to play their series opener tomorrow? Cleveland and Chicago are getting an additional day to rest. I get Cleveland since they swept Boston, but Chicago finished Milwaukee on Thursday. That series should be starting tomorrow and us on Monday.

Starting tomorrow favors us. Quick turnarounds are ideal for this team. We ride on momentum.

Pencils down!

With his eye swollen partially shut and a bandage covering at least a dozen stitches, Jeff Van Gundy said his days as a peacemaker are over.

From the looks of him, it appears to be a wise career decision.

Van Gundy came out on the losing end of a collision Monday between his head and Marcus Camby's after Camby threw a sucker punch at Danny Ferry late in the fourth quarter of New York's 104-82 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

It was Van Gundy's first time in the middle of a dustup since he grabbed hold of Alonzo Mourning's leg during a fight between Mourning and Larry Johnson during the 1998 playoffs.

"I'm getting there," Van Gundy said. "Last time I got their guy, this time I got my guy. Next time I'll stay the heck out of the way."

Van Gundy needed 12-15 stitches to close the cut over his eye.

Camby said he apologized to Van Gundy and his teammates...

Camby, who faces a mandatory suspension under NBA rules for throwing a punch, hung around the building for nearly an hour before finally being persuaded to leave. Only then did security officials allow Ferry to leave the locker room, escorting him to the team bus.

"I'm sure he [Camby] would like to take it back," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "He's an intelligent guy."

David Robinson disagreed.

"It wasn't the smartest thing to do to hit his own coach," Robinson said.

It was a strange ending to another dominant performance by the Knicks, who got 31 points from Allan Houston, 20 from Glen Rice and 19 from Latrell Sprewell. Winning for the ninth time in 10 games and holding their opponent below 100 points for the 31st consecutive game, the Knicks were having one of their best all-around games of the season until late in the fourth...

Camby was poked in the eye by Ferry and was being restrained by his teammates when he lunged after Ferry and threw a windmill punch.

"He poked me in the eye, bloodied me up," Camby, still emotional, told Johnson in the hallway outside San Antonio's locker room. "I wasn't going to hit him until I saw the blood in my eye."

The punch did not hit anybody, but Camby collided with Van Gundy as the coach jumped between them. Van Gundy stayed down for about a minute before getting up, blood dripping down his face.

"He got the shot in that every one of our players would like to do to me. He just got a free one," Van Gundy said.

After the game, Camby stood outside the San Antonio locker room for 10 minutes until Knicks officials — including president Dave Checketts, general manager Scott Layden, Johnson and several security officers — persuaded him to leave. Camby then went downstairs to the area where the Spurs' bus was idling and spent another 20 minutes waiting for Ferry as team officials continued to try to calm him down.

"We were banging around the whole game," Ferry said. "I don't remember doing anything to lead to something like that."

I agree, this team doesn't really have any excuse to be tired either. We rested so much down the stretch and coasted to a victory after our early third quarter domination last night. I'm glad we are getting right back at it.

I agree and I think the 1pm start time will actually play in to our favor.  The Wizards haven't played in a week and now they have to play a 1 pm game.  I think our guys will adjust to the time easier since they are in rhythm.

Kind of curious if anyone can help me recall the games we have played on a major network in the past 10 years.

So far I have:

Hawks vs Celtics Round 1 Game 7

Hawks vs Heat Round 1 Game 7

Hawks vs Bucks Round 1 Game 7

Hawks vs Pacers Round 1 Game 7

I seem to remember a 2nd round Cavs game from a few years ago, but not sure and can't think of any others.

The Joe Johnson Hawks probably got throttled by Lebron the last time we were on ABC in the 2nd round.

One day, the fan base will accept what the Joe Johnson era teams were. And that is simply that they were a young team who grew together, that simply wasn't good enough to be an elite team.

In essence, that team was only favored to in ONE of the 5 1st round series they played in ... and none of the 2nd round matchups.

- 2008: heavy underdogs vs #1 seed Boston

- 2009: slight underdogs vs #5 seed Dwyane Wade and Miami

- 2010: heavily favored vs #6 seed Milwaukee

- 2011: underdogs vs #3 seed Orlando

- 2012: slight underdogs vs #5 seed Boston

They won 3 of those 5 playoff series.

Yes, they weren't good enough to get a game vs 66 win and #1 seed Cleveland in 2009.

And we all know what happened in 2010 vs #2 seed Orlando.

They did finally become competitive in the 2nd round, pushing #1 seed Chicago to 6 games in 2011.

They simply weren't good enough, along with the coaching.
