Wurider05
I am just wondering how good do you guys think that Dennis can be? Can he be a top 5 point guard in this league?
Moderators macdaddy Posted February 23, 2016 Moderators Report Share Posted February 23, 2016 I guess it depends on how you rate top 5. Scoring? Assists? Defense? I think he can be top 5, but top 5 also depends on how many other good points there are. I'd say he can definitely be an all star in this league. And to be honest i didn't think that before this season.
Guest
Dennis is 22 and is in the 3rd year. Fun Exercise.......Let's compare him to other PG's his age (and a couple years older?) and where he would rank.

Popular Post kurupt
Okay, let's play this game and have a little fun :) Dennis is averaging 19.1 points, 8 assists, 1.6 steals and 5 rebounds per 36 minutes at the moment. He is 22 years old and in his 3rd season. Which players put up similar numbers (18+ points, 7+ assists, 1+ steal, 4+ rebounds per 36 minutes) in any of their first 3 years while being 23 years or younger? 4 players in NBA history. HYPE! ;) Russel Westbrook, Clyde Drexler, Rod Strickland and Dennis If we lower the points per 36 minutes to 15 per game, the list is a little longer and Dennis has two qualifying season (this and last year). Thats actually not bad company I would say.
benhillboy
I want him to study Conley and CP3. He'll go as far as a consistent floater, short jumper, and open three ball will take him. Develop all 3 and he's looking at a nice AS run in a couple years. He'll show considerable improvement off of natural strength increase alone. He'll be able to handle himself better when guys like Lowry post him and will absorb more contact from Bigs when he drives instead of shying away. He needs to get the fouls drawn up. He needs some harder screeners and more explosive roller, too. I see Bud trying to get he and Al connected on alley-oops more often but that just ain't Al's game. The outlook of his development is defiantly the brightest spot for the franchise going forward. Dudes still a baby and won't peak for another 6 years. It's cool sitting back watching other teams salivate over him. A decent starting SG beside him wouldn't hurt. He's now a player the Hawks can confidently build around. I used to be very afraid for his health being so slight of build and always hitting the deck but he's proved to be built for the long haul. 15 pounds should fill him out well and he's already very flexible. Already the superior defensive player, he can be good enough to make us forget all about Jeff that's for sure.
RWF
Not saying he's as good as Westbrook, but his swagger and fearlessness reminds me of him.

hazer
Top 10 and regular all-star in a couple of years, possibly top 5 PG at his peak in 6 or 7 years. Shredder is the one guy Hawks GOTTA keep IMO. He was born with that speed, passing, and huevos. He can be taught how to shoot...

He's really trying to lock down that mid range shot and I think thats even more important than the 3 ball for Dennis to get better. Forget Rondo, I think he can be the next Tony Parker. jrok23
Dennis is better than Teague and coach bud needs to realize this and shake things up in the line up. Edited February 24, 2016 by jrok23

Dennis can be special on offense and defense. Consistency is what he's going to have to work on. That and decision making. And that's also +17.9% on Reggie at the same age, and +14% on the first year he got a ton of playing time.

It's the reason why a lot of offense with Teague out there ends up in ISO.
quero
He's not a shoot-first pg. His biggest ability besides his speed and getting in the paint is his court-vision and passing ability. Those baby-rondo comparisons didn't came up for nothing. He is consistently breaking down defenses and if there would be a stat for hockey-assists, he would shine there. On topic, I could imagine he will be a top5-pg in 2 or 3 seasons, since he can play more minutes. TO's and descision-making may hurt his case, but that's the same argument people had for westbrook some years ago. What they have in common is that both have the spirit and drive to win big and to get better to do so. Right now he keeps improving from year to year and still playing low minutes.
