Coach Bud

As much as we've complained about Bud (and I've done my fair share) he still deserves credit for this top 5 defense. Take a look at what was written in the lastest NBA Power Rankings article/list via NBA.com:

The strengths of their top-five defense are forcing turnovers (they rank third in opponent turnover rate) and protecting the rim (allowing the fewest points in the restricted area per game) without fouling (they're fourth in opponent free throw rate).

This team can be better than what they've been this past season. Hopefully the playoffs will go better or at least be competitive...however I think the offense is so bad this season the defense stats no matter how good can also be thrown in the trash at a certain extent. This is why I'm always throwing out there that THJ SHOULD START...we need offense!

Yeah as good as the part fewest points in the paint sounds were getting killed from 3 each night. If everybody's collapsing sure they'll rather kick the ball out to an open 3 pointer. Gotta admit I don't have the stats to back it up.

Schröder benched after heated exchanges with Howard, Budenholzer

In addition to the heated exchange between players, Schröder also had words with coach Mike Budenholzer following the play. Budenholzer then benched Schröder, who played just 3:19 of the second half, in the 119-111 loss.

If this is indeed the case, Bud did EXACTLY what he was supposed to do. He's off the hook, IMHO. You cannot allow that type of thing to go on unchecked especially when it involves a guy who can very well be the future of this franchise. You have to clean that stuff up early before it gets out of hand.

This thread is more on Buds all season performance than about yesterdays incident

I swear . . . this is playing out like Hoosiers.   Bud thinks he's Gene Hackman.   Keep it up, and Hawks fans going to have a town meeting to replace your ass.  Bud doing things to show that HE's in control.

You're in control of nothing, if you lose games due to your ego.

Yeah Bud.  Your word may be LAW . . . but you better sure you don't hurt the team in the long run.  Because even in this movie, Coach Dale ( Bud ) needed the superstar player to take him to the promised land.   And even on the last play of the season, the "system" was thrown out the window, and Coach let his best player go ISO to win the championship.

Haven't posted yet since the other night (only gotten around to it now) but now that we have a new piece of the puzzle that Dennis mouthed off to Bud, I sadly have to agree with the benching.

I still don't get why Kent has the freedom that he has despite the fact he's sucked for a lot of the season though. Is it because he's the **consummate professional**? If so, that's not a good message to send. He can be the consummate professional on the bench when he sucks.

OT, but while there is risk of it being somewhat of a career year, I'm more inclined to buy in some on Hardaway Jr. You can't tell everything from highlight videos, but he seems like he's legitimately changed a few things from New York, and to top that off, his second season seems like sophomore slump instead of who he is. He's improved in his ability to use screens to score or make a play, taking bigs off the dribble, and at least tries on defense. He's not good but he tries.

Haha funny I was just watching nbatv beyond the paint and they were talkin Hoosiers..haha...so Bud is Gene huh? I'm a huuuuge Bud fan and will continue to trust "our process" but some of his decisions have been questionable at best over the couple months it seems.

As a Hawks fan, I feel a lil hopeless and helpless. Not out of the norm but still annoying nonetheless.

This is something I noticed.... just in the backcourt... Last night we used Dennis,Delaney, and Hardaway at the 1,2,3 for a good 10 minutes in the 2nd half.... why can't we do that with our frontcourt?

I'm 100% sure that didn't happen, at least not in the 2nd half...

I'm back to say I also agree with the benching, given that new piece of information. However, Bud's not off the hook. I still don't trust him like I used to do in the past. THJ is way better than Baze and should be starting, no questions asked. Jose should have played if Bud wasn't returning Dennis to the game. Prince needs more minutes, for development purposes if anything. Thabo should not be a part of our future and replacing him with Prince won't harm the team as Thabo is really sucking as of now.

Benching Dennis was the height of arrogance .  Either he is the point guard or not.

There is a whole stream of issues going on right now.  The 4 or so that have become public over the last week are not the beginning of that chain.  Bud seems that as of the visa issue he had finally had enough and is drawing a line in the sand for Dennis to get back on track or sit.

We are a long way away from how tight nit the 60 win team was.

I'm definitely for starting Tim and bringing Baze off the bench.   I think Bud thinks Baze is better defensively and the truth is that Baze has been shooting about 40% from 3 since the beginning of the year.   They are getting close to the same minutes.

The question becomes do you sink$35+million into 2 decent SGs when you don't have a SF other than a 2nd season guy with limited experience.

Bud tries to keep things 'private', but things that happen out in the open have to be dealt with. To be completely honest, absenteeism, tardiness, and insubordination are clear cut grounds for termination for 99.9% of us on this forum. If I did the things Schro has done in the last two weeks at my job, in that same time span AND in that order, I'd be escorted off the premises by security.

I was actually pissed when this happened to me in 2005...I was like..WTF am I gonna steal..a stapler, the cubicle???? I left there with a "that was easy" button thingy from office max...I WIN!!!!

But ya I'm with Bud. Sit Dennis till he learns...I don't care if we slip outta the playoffs just set this guy straight at 23, so he won't be a complete self glorified whore at age 26.

I don't know about y'all but, for me, this thread is now about what Spud2 did to get escorted out by security.

My money's on *ahem* watching "movies" at work.

Any thoughts?  Pretty sure the aftermath was akin to ...

Well I'm Steve Martin in losing it with a John Candy frame to boot!

What I’m supposed to do? Settle for mediocrity and stay in a .500 mode and not do anything and just be OK with that? That’s the problem with the whole image of this group is that that’s been OK, and if we’re underdogs and we don’t win it, that’s OK. No. I won’t settle for that. I’ll continue to shuffle until I find something that works best to give us the best chance to hold the trophy. And if people don’t like it, they can kiss my a–.

A quote from Bud?   Ummmm, no.

That's Memphis Grizzlies coach David Fizdale ( one of Woody's old assistants ).

If Bud had this mentality, Baze would be on the bench ( buried ) and Prince and Bembry would be main rotation players.   Humphries might be playing too.

Not if you're the star of the company.  People who are great at what they do, always get more leeway than people who are mediocre to bad.  Everybody is not judged the same.  Tonight was proof what happens when you let Dennis play.  Had Bud been on his power trip again, we would've lost to the Nets

THE NETS

I too can come back and say I was wrong and now see why Bud benched Dennis ....the thing about is that the rest of the team seem to have felt bud did the right thing based on what millsap said about the whole situation.

its past us now. bud & sap said Dennis did an excellent job maturing and getting past this.

we have to remember that Dennis is 23. He's still maturing old heads lol.

The fog Bud is in about Baze is similar to what was going on with Moose (no rational reason to love him) but its worse because of the contract amount and length. He just won't face it, there is no positive way for Baze to consistently get good rotational minutes other than against backup shooting guards and even then keep those minutes less than twenty. Talking of trading him by us is a pipe dream right now.
