Must gonna match THJr. 19m is too much Your question is complicated. First of All...THj's contract is 71 million over 4 years with the 4th years being 19 million. This means the 1st year salary is closer to $16.5 million. You can look at the salary 2 ways. Way 1 includes all the holds, exemptions which vastly confuses the situation. There is no reason to include them during the dead part of the year because any can be renounced at any time to make a deal work. When you read HF's posts, he talks about operating above or below the cap. This is because we never know what was renounced to make a deal work until after the fact. For the purposes of the offseason, there is no reason to discuss holds/exemptions unless your real salary puts you over the cap. So dealing with our real salary right now you have (with some coming changes listed below). Kent Bazemore $16,910,112 Dennis Schröder $15,500,000 Jamal Crawford $14,246,988 Miles Plumlee $12,400,000 Marco Belinelli $6,606,060 Tim Hardaway Jr $3,335,707 Malcolm Delaney $2,500,000 Taurean Prince $2,422,560 John Collins $1,936,920 Mike Dunleavy $1,600,000 Ryan Kelly $1,577,230 DeAndre Bembry $1,567,200 Diamond Stone $1,312,611 TOTALS $78,579,681 Okay now there are some things "wrong" with this list. 1. We need the details of the JC buyout. JC has 14.2 mil this year and 14.6 mil next year but only 3 mil of next year is guaranteed. So effectively we're buying out 17.247 million. Now we've negotiated this down "some". That's what we need to know. Now we can stretch this cap hit out a max of 7 years. So 7 year case at this number is $2.5 million per year cap hit. It will probably be less. Additionally, When the Cavs, Wizards or Timberwolves use their mid-level on him you can subtract that number from the cap hit and that is what is actually stretched (they may choose to absorb it in one year if far enough below the cap). So you can subtract between $12 and 14 million from that Totals number. 2. Ryan Kelly was traded to Houston it just isn't finalized yet. That 1.577 million isn't real, subtract it as well. 3. The second Hardaway signed the offer sheet, his temporary number in Atlanta went to the 1st year number of the 4 year contract. That is the number used when negotiating with other free agents (about $16.5 million). So add 13.2 million back in until Hardaway goes to NY or keep it if we match. 4. This number doesn't include the $5 million per that Muscala signed for today. So we really don't know the exact number right now of theoretical space. The math is either about 99-78.6+12+1.6-13.2-5 (if we match) = or about $15.8 million in cap space or 99-78.6+12+1.6+3.3-5 (if we don't match) = $25.7 million in cap space. Again, the remaining unrenounced free agent cap holds and exception eat into that (theoretically) and would have to be renounced to make deals on that money. Also, because many of these numbers are approximations. The numbers here are approximations.
thecampster
Okay Spotrac has it 99% updated now. Practical number is the number I keep referring to. http://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/ . Shows the Hawks at $68,541,272, not including Crawford/Hardaway. Edited July 8, 2017 by thecampster
thecampster
So that's $31.5 million in room, match Hardaway and its $15 million....subtract Crawford and its $12.5 or less in room based on what they do or do not stretch.
Premium Member mrhonline Posted July 8, 2017 Premium Member Report Share Posted July 8, 2017 Guesswork on Crawford, but I back-of-napkin calculated ~$25M once you factor in minimum roster holds.
thecampster
and that's pretty much accurate. Same as I said up top but just cleaned up the numbers a bit.
