Summer League Game 2: Hawks vs Pelicans

Bembry out there dropping dimes!

Collins looking excellent.

Patience on Dorsey.  He's playing with no confidence. If he gets his confidence you may see a different player in summer league.

The Hawks are playing Bud ball.  Decent defense for summer league and moving the ball on offense.

I actually liked the Bembry pick better than the Prince pick last year.  Old school type of player..

How did we get him at 19?

He already has a solid mid range game.

We got him because the NBA has become foolish overvaluing floor spacing too much. Collins should have been a top 10 ish pick based on his production and youth,  but he didn't take a single 3 college, so they assumed he couldn't shoot. There stupidity our gain. Our scouts had him ranked properly on their board.

Secondly, when Collins threw down that hard dunk on the break, I saw the first genuine smile from a normally stoic Schlenk. It scared me a little bit.

People will talk about his tomahawk slam but that step back jumper from Collins was pure beauty.

Bembry has a veteran feel for the game. He needs to touch the ball on every possession. He knows where the ball should go on the fast break as well as how to read the defense in the half court. 

Add to that, he has hops. Man I wish he and THJ could have been our SG rotation.

then there's Collins who gives me JSmoove flashbacks every time he elevates. You just know he owns the air above the rim. His shooting potential is very evident too.

Bud was wilding last year playing Bembry so sparingly, in favor of Delaney no less.  He's a good handler who's always seeking playmaking opportunities.

John Colllins Mid Range game is NICE.

This is all I really need from Collins. A 3 pt shot would be nice if he is wide open, but he is keeping the defense honest and is closer to the rim with his mid range game.

This game debunks the summer league games just don't count bit. This stuff is fun especially with Bembry and Collins giving us highlights. Hawk's roundball.

Great defense by Bembry, then gave it away.  Hawks got lucky Pelicans messed that possession up.

Great final team defensive possession.  Last play was Bembry in a nutshell: missed both free throws, immediately gets his 6th steal.

Very encouraging.  The kids are alright.
