As certainly noted already in Dennis' thread, the iron was unkind for Schröder from long-range (0-for-4 3FGs) against the group-play hosts in Tel Aviv. But he still wrecked shop on the inside, making 6-of-10 shots inside the arc (5-for-9 in the paint), dishing out seven assists and adding three steals, while chopping his turnover tally from the prior game down to less-than-half (4 TOs).

Unfortunately, Germany needed Schröder and Daniel Theis to carry the squad the full four quarters. Israel came back from 16 points down in the final frame to prevail before the raucous home crowd, 82-80.

Belinelli's Italy and Schröder's Germany will look to bounce back on Tuesday evening against one another.

Both Italy and Germany put a lot of offensive weight upon Marco Belinelli and Dennis Schröder, respectively. And while each had their struggles -- Schröder (17 points, 4 assists) with 6 TOs, Belinelli (12 points, 2 steals) shooting 4-for-18 from the field -- in Germany's 61-55 victory today, neither team would be of much use in this tournament without them.

Oh, hey, look who got to play yesterday!

Greece struggled the whole game to gain traction against host Finland in Helsinki, even though the Finnish had to start out without injured star Jamar Wilson. But don't blame Dimitrios Agravanis!

Our Hawks stashee got a tourney-high 19 minutes, most of those in the fourth quarter as the Greeks were falling behind, and closed the gap to single digits with under seven minutes to go -- first, an And-1 lay-in to cut Finland's lead down to 9, then a three-pointer mere seconds later to reduce the lead to six.

Despite the 89-77 defeat for Greece, Dimitrios (9 points, 6 rebounds, 4-for-5 FTs) ended the game with a team-high +9 on the plus/minus scale, a value which would have been even higher had he not fouled three-point shooters in the second and third quarter.

Classification day is underway!

http://www.eurohoops.net/en/eurobasket/509137/the-clasification-scenarios/

In Group A, Dimirios Agravanis and Greece (1-3) need a victory today against Poland to avoid elimination.

In Group B, Dennis Schröder's Germany (3-1) and Marco Belinelli's Italy (2-2) each move on to the knockout stage, and how they finish today will determine who from Group A (Slovenia, France, Finland, and Poland/Greece) they'll play in the first round.

Despite 19 points from Schröder (8-for-11 FGs, 2-for-3 3FGs, 2 assists and just 1 TO) so far, Germany is presently down at the half, 47-43, versus Donatas Motiejunas and Lithuania.

Meanwhile...

No word whether Germany or Italy team members were affected by the thefts, but members from both the Lithuanian and Israeli teams did report stolen items.

Wash-Rinse-Repeat for Team Germany! Dennis Schröder (26 points, 3 steals) goes 10-for-17 from the field, but the rest of his Germanic tribe went 17-for-52 while getting gashed inside at turns by Jonas Valanciunas and Donatas Motiejunas. Lithuania beat Germany like they stole something (sorry! lol) in the second half, prevailing by an 89-72 score.

It took a big block from Luigi Datome at the buzzer to stave off Georgia and preserve Italy's 71-69 victory. Marco Belinelli led the way with 15 points (3-for-5 3FGs), but 11 of those were in the first half of play. He also snared another 3 steals for Italy, which wrapped up Group play with a 3-2 record.

Zaza Pachulia's club now needs a loss by Ukraine to make it into the knockout phase. Belinelli and Italy, meanwhile, have a September 9 date with Finland in Istanbul.

Not much production from Dimitrios Agravanis (11 minutes, one rebound, 0-for-1 FG) today, although there wasn't much help needed by Greece in felling Poland, 95-77, and advancing to the knockout stage.

Heading to Turkey, the Greeks (2-3) will get to face Lithuania in the Round of 16. Dennis Schröder and Germany will go head-to-head with Boris Diaw and France, also on September 9.

Dennis and Daniel did it for Deutschland!

Germany needed all of Dennis Schröder's 8 assists (and a perfect 11-for-11 from the FT line, along the way to 21 points), plus a monstrous effort from Daniel Theis (22 points on 8-for-9 FGs, 2-for-2 3FGs), to put France away in the Round of 16 at Eurobasket, 84-81.

Oddly snubbed for the Rio Olympics, Evan Fournier kept Les Bleus in it late, France taking a 65-64 lead with a three and a layup with just over five minutes to play. But some great dishes by Schröder and Johannes Voigtmann helped keep Germany in front the rest of the way even as Fournier (27 points) kept scoring right on through the final minute. Schröder also set up a big fastbreak jam for Theis over Boris Diaw in the third quarter.

Into the 3rd quarter for Italy against Finland. Marco and Luigi went Super Nintendo on the Finns in the first half, guiding the Italians to a 47-30 first-half lead. At the moment, Belinelli and Datome are shooting a combined 10-for-14 from the field (Marco 5-for-6 on threes) and 9-for-10 at the line. Lauri Markkanen has been hardly used or useful in this contest.

Hope Dimitrios didn't have to buy a ticket! No floor time today for Agravanis, but there'll still be time to get back out there on the floor, as Greece sent Jonas Valanciunas and Lithuania packing out of the Round of 16. Former NBAers Nick Calathes and Kostas "Greek Army Knife" Papanikolaou took care of business. Greece is committed to letting the elder players perform, but I get the sense that they're punishing Giannis by barely playing big bro Thanasis.

Five field goals apiece for Dennis and Pau, as Spain came back from an early deficit to grab the halftime lead, 34-33. Each team struggled to get it going from outside (3-for-11 3FGs), so far, although Maodo Lo sunk two of his three attempts for Germany. The German guards have their hands full with Ricky Rubio and Sergio Rodriguez (combined 8 assists and 2 TOs). Three of Dennis' five baskets came on left-wing twos, including a jumper with under 50 second left to bring Germany back within a point. For one of his two assists, he also connected on an alley with Daniel Theis in the second period.

Dennis with 27 pts - 8 assists . .. and 7 turnovers, in a loss to Spain.   Spain just had too many weapons, led by Marc Gasol ( 28 pts - 10 rebs ).  Germany has no weapons, outside of Dennis and the Theis guy.

Welp, this was a good experience for Dennis, in the "I'm the man" role.  He'll get to shoot the ball a lot this year.  If he can cut down on the turnovers, we all should be pleased with Dennis' progression as a player.
