Premium Member Popular Post sturt Posted September 27, 2017 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted September 27, 2017 https://www.peachtreehoops.com/2017/9/27/16365942/mike-budenholzer-rebuild-atlanta-hawks-player-development-media-day I damn sure wish someone would finally get the balls to ask straight-up, "Bud, talk to us as candidly as you feel comfortable specifically about the transition that's taken place over the off-season, your feelings about working with the new GM now that you've had about 3-4 months together, and give us your perspective on how committed you feel the Hawks are to you, and in turn, how committed you are, under these new conditions, to the Hawks. Or something to that effect. Having said that, I'm encouraged to some degree by what he did already say in his presser, which thankfully finally came about after a summer of relative eery silence. Quote Because Budenholzer has presided over playoff-bound teams in each and every season of his NBA head coaching tenure, this is a new challenge for him and it comes with the added intrigue of a title change that removes his responsibilities as the head of the front office. As part of that move, Budenholzer expressed “a great passion” for the coaching profession in his Media Day remarks and cited the ability to provide his “undivided attention” to the details necessary to do that job on the highest possible level. While Budenholzer’s coaching acumen is rarely in question, there could be something to this change in that it allows 100 percent focus Quote “For the most part, luckily, most of us I think live in our own little world,” Budenholzer said. “And teams tend to just bunker in and we know what’s happening on our practice court, we know what’s happening in our film sessions and in our games. Our expectations of ourselves, I think, are significantly more important than what people on the outside expect of us.” “It’s kind of wasted time to think about or worry about what anybody else is expecting of us,” Budenholzer lamented. “I think a lot of the things that we’ve been doing, probably a lot of it since we’ve started playing basketball and coaching basketball, is how we come to work everyday, what are we doing in the gym, how are we preparing. That’s where our expectations are. If you’re doing those things then, more often than not, you can feel good about what’s happening on the court, and it just continues to be our focus is what are we doing everyday, how are we getting better everyday and that’s where our focus and expectations are.” Quote “I think the thing you’ve heard us all of us talk about this each year...” Budenholzer began. “When you genuinely believe in player development, when you genuinely believe in your team getting better from the start of this season to end of this season I think it’s a big reason why a lot of us coach and a lot of us play.” “I think we’re all competitive and when it comes to the games we’re going to lay everything on the line, we’re going to give it everything we’ve got and we hope through the work and player development and the individual development that the results are going to be something that we’re all proud of. There’s maybe some degree of underestimation of who we are and what we can be.” Quote “I think if you kind of appreciate and actually enjoy and embrace the process of whether you’re winning NBA championships or winning 60, 55, 50 games or you’re in a different phase of your organization and you’re growing and developing and laying the foundations for something you think can be special.” “That process can be incredibly rewarding, I think not just for the organisation but for player for coaches and everyone that’s involved in it. If you’re just focused on the end result you’re probably going to have a frustrating year, but I think if you embrace what you go through every day and work through every day there’s a lot you can take from that.”
ATLSmith
Certainly Bud was dissapointed with the Ferry situation but I think he is, in many ways, looking forward to coaching a young core. It's something he can really put his stamp on, like Popovich did with the Spurs.

Truth be told even had we kept the vets that helped us get to the playoffs consistently bud knew deep inside that the hawks were still a long shot at actually even being considered a real contender.....in other words I believe bud embraces the opportunity to have a young team he not only can develop but perhaps a star will pop out of all this at some point over the next few seasons
Popular Post thecampster
2018 - I saw a projection showing the Hawks picking at 2, 22, 29. 2019 - Their own pick again and Cleveland's (all things being good) - my estimation is something like 8, 22. So you're Bud and you know that in 2019 you'll most probably have a lineup that features. Dennis, Bembrey, Dorsey, Prince, Collins, +5 first round draft picks (2 in the lottery). The total cap hit for these 10 players...all team drafted... will be less than $60 million. You'll have $50 million to add vets to this extremely talented young group of which you'll get 1 to 2 star vets. Basically, it looks like a Kentucky freshman squad with all of the elite leaping/shooting talent. All you have to do is survive the next 2 years. If Bud can go through the pains of 2 years of 20-35 wins....The future in 2019 begins to look very bright.
Premium Member Peoriabird Posted September 28, 2017 Premium Member Report Share Posted September 28, 2017 I think Bud just said that he is ignoring all of you naysayers on Hawks Squawk and on that locked on Hawks Pod cast and moving forward with his player development. He is also insinuating that y'all don't know as much as you think you know about professional basketball. This is what I think of y'all

Yeah. I suppose that gets the essence."
