Thomas
After a not so lengthy thirty one games of NBA experience Embiid can make over thirty million per now over five years with incentives. Good to be an NBA player these days. May possibly pay off for the 76'ers with some healthy bones moving forward. Still really crazy stuff though. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/20971278/joel-embiid-philadelphia-76ers-accepts-max-rookie-scale-contract-extension
Admin capstone21 Posted October 10, 2017 Admin Report Share Posted October 10, 2017 Crazy ... I just can’t believe this kinda money for a guy who has played 31 games in 3years ... he is the next Greg Oden / Yao Ming ... a talented big man whose career will be cut short by injuries

Moderators AHF Posted October 10, 2017 Moderators Report Share Posted October 10, 2017 Is he the next Oden or Big Z (major health problems but got past it and became a healthy player)? He is elite if healthy.
Lurker
Wat. I know the Sixers don't have much to spend it on but at least make him prove he can stay healthy.
Admin capstone21 Posted October 11, 2017 Admin Report Share Posted October 11, 2017 The problem he has never been and never will be healthy ... that kind of money for a guy who has a career of 31 games over three years is just crazy ... Philly might have just dug themselves a hole
Thomas
Well...there seems to be some measure of sanity to the monster contract. Safety clauses based strictly on previous injuries Embiid has incurred which makes a ton of sense. Injuries other than previous ones aren't a part of the safety clauses it doesn't look like. Maybe he does indeed average more than ten games per the next few seasons. A make or break player in more ways than one for the 76ers win/loss record moving forward. Here's how a perfect storm of calamity would have to unfold for Embiid to earn any less than the full $146.5 million: Across each of the final four seasons of the extension, ending with the 2022-23 season, the 76ers could waive Embiid for a financial benefit if he's lost because of a contractually agreed-upon injury that causes him to miss 25 or more regular-season games and if he plays fewer than 1,650 minutes, league sources said. Specific injuries are laid out in the contract and include only past problem areas with Embiid's feet and back, sources said. Embiid has to miss 25 or more regular-season games because of injuries to those areas, and play fewer than 1,650 minutes, for Philadelphia to have the option of releasing him for cost savings. TheNorthCydeRises
You guys keep saying that's nuts. If Embiid were a Hawk, would you want the Hawks paying that money for him? Let me give you a hint . . . and keep in mind, he did all of this in 15 minutes of play.

There is no doubt of his talent ... he is just a Yao Ming/Sam Bowie/Greg Oden clone ... he is an injury waiting to happen ... 3 seasons and 31 games

We aren't paying that much less for Bazemore and I doubt he ever gets to be even an average starter. It could bust big time given his health issues but he could be a top 5 player in the league if he is healthy so you take your gamble on a guy like that.
