You won’t find a Tanker who runs better sets, PNR, or shoot threes.  Stinger was very eloquent in his assessment last night like he was at open mic night or something.  I’d like to hear Hubie’s thoughts on them too instead of the tired national analysis who thinks we’re actually as bad as the record states.  In terms of wacthability this team is superior to last years, no disrespect to Sap.  Just makes me even more pissed we wasted a year with Dwight or we’d be further long in the rebuild.

I don't feel like this is sustainable over a full season...it's like how the Falcons had a ridiculous number of tip pass INTs earlier this season. 

Not to say its a good or even mediocre team (there might be something though if guys get back healthy and Dennis gets back to doing what a lot of guards do in this modern age, not saying there will be though) but by balancing out, some of these games, maybe by pure luck, maybe by just being sick of losing late, etc, might end up being wins later.

At this point in the season, I'd rather see the Hawks pull out a few close games, like they did last night.

I'm not mad with them losing at OKC w/o Dennis in a tight game.  The team is to be commended for how hard they fought. But "celebrating" losses will never be cool with me.

Close losses doesn't build a winning culture.  Winning does.

Getting good players will do more for our future culture than any amount of morale victories.  Bobby Sura victories didn't help us establish a winning culture.  They just meant we got Josh Childress instead of Dwight Howard.

The Falcons are proving you wrong on that one my friend :D  They are sustaining that over the full season and it's down right infuriating.  9 of Ryans 12 int's have come off the hands of his receivers that should be almost guaranteed catches.  He has actually thrown the best % of non intercepted or bad balls of any QB this year according to PFF.  He just has terrible luck this year with drops and tipped int's.   Butterception yesterday is a prime example of it XD

Now as for the Hawks i agree that they have played much much better in games than their record would indicate how bad they are.  I think we are 1 good top 3 pick in this draft and 1 really good FA pickup away from being right back in this thing contending.  Then just keep building off that and the young core as we reload and get better contracts and cap space.

 

Im not sure how good Luca will be in the NBA on every team but im thinking under Bud he could be a star in this scheme.  As i think his game is tailored for it perfectly.  I don't think he would be a elite prospect for every team though and would downright suck on some teams who run ISO the majority of the time.

Difference is the NFL season is all of 16 games long. The NBA is 82. Lurker is right... this team is going to win some games, unfortunately.

I rather prime Dwight Howard over Josh Childress. The difference is a Joe and Dwight lead team compared to a Smooth and Chillz show

I totally get what you're saying on this, but I hope Doncic has the game to be a star no matter what system he has to play in.  Not just a player who's good because of the system he plays in.

Offensively, he should be fine, defensively I see some issues regardless of the system. I am still not sure what his NBA position and I don't know If he can defend any of them

I think he will match up with whoever is the weaker wing early in his career.  He should have the height to bother people if he can be in a decent position.  He will have a learning curve for sure.

That doesn't work as easily in today's NBA. Most teams weaker wings can score. Look at Baze

I think Donic has the drive to play good defense. He's not super athletic, so he'll have to learn angles and where his help is, but I'm not too concerned about it with him. 

The team pulled off an improbable last second loss last night. Guys on the NBA Serious network were giving the Hawks crud about not finishing the game. In my mind, I was like that is the result we wanted!

I would not be afraid to let Baze shoot as long as he isn't left totally open from 3.  He does a fine job on wide open 3's but doesn't do any other shot particularly well.  He is shooting less than 30% from 3-16 feet this season.  Don't let him have an open 3 or let him get to the rim and he can have the rest of the floor every single possession and I'll be thrilled as the opponent.

Team defense in that case is critical and there aren't many quality help side specialists. We had one with Al with You see how hard it is to get them at an NBA level while not being an hindrance. I think this can be a harder personnel fit than most of us realize

The Hawks defense will be a work in progress going forward, but Donic is such a talent, I think you get him and then figure it out. There are other guys in the league that aren't super athletes but they know how to defend and make it hard on their guy. It may take a while for Donic to get there, but he'll be what 19 if we get lucky enough to add him.

I don't think he's that type of talent. I just don't, I think he's a Dirk type, you gotta build and get lucky. I am not sold on that, we couldn't do it with Al. I would rather Bamba or Ayton. Both need a lot less long term
