Official Game Thread: Hawks at Cavaliers

Sad to say, watching the game last night, KB21 and his 18 win season sure looked like a real possibility.  Defense has disappeared, if it ever actually existed.

Hero ball showed it's ugly head.  Either a turnover or a missed shot.  Too many tries at passing the ball after driving into triple team under the basket.  Ugh.

I really like Huerter but his refusal to shoot the ball is killing him and the Hawks.  He is a capable scorer but refuses to try.  Why?  He needs help by a veteran player and Prince and Bazemore do not need to be the examples.

On a brighter note, the Cavs did look more like the team that Hawk fans hoped that they would be, because of the draft.  With no Love and another coach, they looked like a different team than when we last faced them.

Jeremy Lin is slowly losing the rust off his game.  He's looking better but he still has a long way to go to be completely back.  He set up some nice dunks.  And, he didn't turn over the ball as much.  A small step at a time for him.  Perhaps he can help Huerter with his game.

As Spud said, John Collins looked to be at ease behind the mike.  Hoping he gets well soon and joins the fun.  Also, how is Anderson coming along?  Too much of our hopes for the future still out, injured.

Time for Lloyd Pierce to step out and begin to teach some defense.  We are sorely short here and he is said to know defense.  Time to strut your stuff coach!

WAKE UP HAWKS !  ENOUGH SLEEP WALK !

The biggest issue with this team isn't defense, its offense. They were never going to be any good defensively with this personnel. Too many holes even with Collins, it doesn't get better, just remains the same. Dedmon and Bembry are the only defensive minded players and they are net negatives on offense which kills their overall impact.

Offense should be top 20 at the least and right now. It's terrible. Probably the worst in the NBA. Wings and bigs are maddeningly inconsistent and Trae shot is inconsistent and Lin is still rusty. Like I said previously, they are going to win games but lost a lot of games.

Bud clearly is a more detailed oriented coach compared to Pierce who is more system oriented. I like the system change but we got too many Bud disciples still. Bazemore fits this style more but he is a Bud disciple. Prince was better under Bud. Dedmon was much better under Bud. Bembry is probably the only one outside of Baze that's better in this new system.

We need to continue to build.

What we need is two way players who can create their own basket but also be able to play off of the ball and put the ball on the deck. Getting a center who can protect the paint is critical with Young at PG. We need to figure out if Prince is a future star or scrub. We need to trade Bazemore while he fits and adds value, I'll rather get rid of that contract and try to make a run at Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler in the offseason.

Young

Butler

Leonard

Collins

Bol

Also draft Langford, Barrett or Reddish. Turn this ship around quick.

I missed the game, so review from boxscore only.

78 points given up in a half

Starting wings with 9 combined turnovers and shot a combined 6/20.  They are struggling doing way too much.

Team shot 64% from the freethrow line (really? Hit those freebies fellas).

Seems like Len feared Dedmon taking his starting gig - he was a stat stuffer last night across the board.

We need to get Huerter taking more shots.

Finally,  the corpse of JLin came alive, just in time for Halloween.:batman:

Y’all want The Colonel to pursue this kat in ‘20, or naw?

Nope.

Can we stop pretending like Klay is capable of generating his own offense?  Dude had like 78 points in a quarter on 9 dribbles.  9 dribbles, people.

Really good player but he's not a guy who goes out and eats.  He gets fed.  That's not the max-alpha we need.

But we have a guy to generate offense for him.   Just not sure who else to add to get to the next level unless we think Heurter or next year's draft will be as good as Klay.

So you're gonna ask him to pass up more money in GS to come here to eat off a guy who's a younger, lesser version of the guy who's feeding him now?

Makes no sense.
