thecampster
Draft picks are part of "next year" and so they apply to the 20 man limit because they don't count till signed....but trades per July 1 still count toward the old 15 man limit. So the logic here is we are planning a trade where we take back more players than we send out in order to facilitate something before/on June 20. Probably something like taking on a salary for a pick or a pick upgrade for the Lakers in the Anthony Davis deal. Players on the roster for next year and that earn money are something like Ball, Ingram...everyone else not named Lebron earns less than 3 million a year. If the idea is to resign some of their free agents and entice a free agent to sign there with Davis coming in trade to make a new big 3, they'll have to find a new home for Lonzo ball or something and they'll need picks to entice the Pelicans. So a deal would include us taking back Ball or player from a 4th team in exchange for one of our picks to strengthen their offer for Davis. Not saying that team is it but it'll be something like that. Its also possible it'll be something like Baze (expiring) + a second or 2 for a good couple of players another team needs to move (like Paul George and filler). Taking back 2 contracts for 1 with some picks exchanged....something like that and needed the one spot. Something is coming.

I think we are moving up for Culver with picks 10 & 17 in whatever scenario with lakers, pelicans, and mystery team (maybe wizards) I believe we end with picks 4 or 5 and pick 8 in the top 10 of the lottery . Then maybe swing a deal back to okc with our 2nd rd picks plus whatever available cap to take on another bad contract to get okc pick #21and relive them of some cap space. lots of ways we can go but there’s definitely something getting ready to go down. It makes sense to have the roster flexibility with the huge amount of assets we have. I doubt there have been much in the way of talks just yet, but once finals wrap up and the draft draws nears there are bound to be at least some offers coming our way with the notorious amount of assets and cap flexibility we possess. It's why the last couple of Schlenk trades were so fantastic, we can just sit back right now and wait for the offers to come through. We are also the perfect third party in any mega trade that could occur.
