REHawksFan
Gave up 41 in the first. Pels getting whatever they want in the paint. Favors really feasting. Pels shot 72% in the 1st with 18 made baskets on 14 assists. Crazy efficient. Zinger looks pretty good for the Mavs. Luka was pretty non-existent. 4 points on 5 shots. EazyRoc
The perimeter defense has been really good on Luka. He hasn’t been given any good looks..
Premium Member Vol4ever Posted October 26, 2019 Premium Member Report Share Posted October 26, 2019 Would love to have Portzingis (sp). We would be kickin it with him.
EazyRoc
Porzingis is killing it protecting the rim. He has so much potential on the defensive end with his length and speed. Edited October 26, 2019 by EazyRoc
Premium Member Vol4ever Posted October 26, 2019 Premium Member Report Share Posted October 26, 2019 Mavs gonna be decent if Zinger stays healthy. He is as good as any big in the league.

Luka has the most unassuming stats on a regular basis. He's just solid if unspectacular until late in the game. He has the drive for a bucket and then the banked 3 and boom he's sitting on 25. Up to that point it was inefficient night. Something like 17 pts on 15 shots. Nothing too impressive. But end of the night he's got the best line and is just solid. I'll give him that.
Premium Member cam1218 Posted October 26, 2019 Premium Member Report Share Posted October 26, 2019 I like the early takes, but so much changes throughout the season. Players start the season motivated and healthy, so we see the best of a lot of them (effort wise, results vary). Once we hit game 30 we won’t have these hot takes. Who is still hungry, who is still healthy, etc.. It is fun to see the early drama in the league though.

He is not as good on the ball as Trae but he very good on and off the ball. Very difficult to defend Edited October 26, 2019 by NBASupes

Facts What's weird about the whole Luka/Trae thing is that they are actually eerily similar in a lot of ways. Creative scorers, each with a signature shot, Trae with the from the logo and Luka with the step back. But both have problems with shot selection and efficiency at times. Creative passers with amazing vision, but a tendency for turnovers. And both clearly have the clutch gene and a flair for the dramatic. Neither one much of a defender. I find the similarities astonishing.

I don't see him take over games and just dominate. And yet, at the end of the night, he's filled up the stat sheet. Solid player. Consistent. Really really good. But there's just something missing. The elite players like LBJ, Harden, Steph, Kawhi, etc... all take over games and dominate. I just don't really see that with Luka. I do however see that with Trae. EDIT: I admit I don't watch all of Luka's games so I know I could have missed something with him. Edited October 26, 2019 by REHawksFan
bleachkit
If we just could have drafted Luka at #3 and then somehow traded with Orlando to get their pick and drafted Trae. Just think, we could have had one the best passing, most creative shot making duos of all time.

He's certainly better than I expected before the Draft, but I'm still not the least bit upset about trading him away as if we traded away a Lebron or something.

Trae just seems much more willing to deal with constant contact and that is what it takes to play defense.

Even that may be a stretch since Harden is an elite scorer. He reminds me of Joe Johnson minus the defense. That's not a knock on either player. JJ in his prime carried the Hawks. 2
