Before the playoffs, Trae was padding his stats while Luca was changing the sport. Now all of the sudden, the narrative has switched to Trae forming the head of the newest version of Team Voltron while Luca is carrying stiffs like Nique circa 1990. More hilarious than an old Def Comedy Jam episode...
Premium Member Popular Post JeffS17 Posted June 22, 2021 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted June 22, 2021 lol Luka is the golden boy, there's absolutely no stopping the constant narrative-swerving with him. His entire career will be framed similar to Lebrons: Why couldn't X team put enough good players around him to win a chip Luka was amazing but X team needs a new coach Luka was clearly playing through injuries or he would have average 45/15/15 this series More excuses for him And when his team does win, all of the credit will go to him. Trae gets the opposite treatment, but I don't care because it fuels him even more. 8
Popular Post RedDawg#8
My response to people that say it's his supporting cast is, That didn't stop you from picking the Knicks to win. Or the Sixers. We all knew who was on the rosters ahead of time and you still chose against the Hawks. You don't get to knock him twice and still be right. That's double jeopardy. Either you were wrong about Trae, or you were wrong about the team. So which is it? Then no matter what they say, just bring up the All Star game, the top 25 under 25 lists, the All-NBA awards. We were consistently snubbed on everything. So how could we have been so great without any love from the outside? And where were you to speak up on the Hawks behalf when these lists came out? Keep that energy. Don't act like you always knew the Hawks were this good. Don't act like you aren't still picking against us in the ECF. When they concede, well Trae should have been an all-star, make them tell you who they would remove in place of Trae and why. Hold them accountable. Watch them stumble, "well I mean Lavine did have the stats, and um um um so did Beal, idk that's tough" You have to call people out on their BS right on the spot. Do not let them off the hook 7

History will look on less kindly if he never makes the finals or never wins a ring. Nobody talks about Charles Barkley in the GOAT debates. LeBron's post-season track record put him in that conversation. Bear in mind the only thing the media loves more than building up someone into a super exposed star is tearing them down. Both generate lots of easy content and lots of clicks. Things will turn if he doesn't win in the post-season. (Even if he was never deserving of the degree of fawning he got - he is a legit star and deserves respect - and even if he isn't deserving of all the criticism and character assassination that comes when they tear it down).

You're right but for the foreseeable future he will be getting the benefit of the doubt like Lebron did his first couple of years (and frankly, Lebron's teams had actual bums, the Mavs have a solid roster). People have anointed Luka as a generational talent and hall of famer before he's really made any noise other than media-voted awards. He has good volume stats on ludicrously high usage, that's about all he has done so far. Edited June 22, 2021 by JeffS17

But I totally agree he is getting the benefit of every doubt. The media is in "his **** is actually gold" mode with him right now. They have been downplaying Trae in contrast since he stumbled out of the gate his rookie year. Just like Trae, Luka is a human who has faults and will make mistakes and have bad games. But both Trae and Luka have been historically good. The list of players who have been as good in their first 3 years as those two is very, very short. I hope they go down as this generation's Magic and Bird but it is past time the media give our "Magic" his due and way past time to stop trying to knock down to build Luka up. They are both plenty good to give them their props for exactly who they are.

Unlike others where it's just hero-ball, more hero-ball, then hero-bawl. (ooh see what I did there?) 3

RedDawg#8
Trae overall to me is this generations Isiah. Overall on and off the court. The media has a love hate relationship with the guy. He was snubbed during his career for things that had nothing to do with his actual ability. He was a scrappy trash talker who guys hated to go against, small, underestimated, me against the world mentality, and delivered championships to a city that was starved for one and until then overlooked by the national spotlight. Trae obviously has a different play style, but when you account for the generational evolution off the game I think it transcribes. Back then they could rough up guards more than they do now. Trae may not have been able to put up monster scoring, but his resolve and toughness would have found a way to impact winning the way Isiah was able to. Good guy, imho. Said, on his podcast, that he's mad at himself for getting convinced to buy into the 6er kool-aid. He warned folks that atl could win but folks convinced him off it. His cohost copped to vastly underrating Trae. Underrated not only his skill but also his toughness. Said Trae is pound for pound one of the toughest players in the league. Pompey agreed.

Lot's of people don't get this, not only mentally tough, but for as small as he is physically tough too, doesn't shy from contact. He embraces it.

Nevermind the fact that it wasn't an attempt to draw a tailgate foul. It was just Dwhine being clumsy. How stupid can a supposed expert be? I hope ..... eh, I'm not gonna wish ill on the Suns (out loud). 1
