Premium Member Popular Post JayBirdHawk Posted December 16, 2021 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted December 16, 2021 Quote Visiting reporters are just a few feet from the opposing team’s bench. That allows reporters to hear — and see — things they normally wouldn’t at other arenas. For example, there were two hilarious exchanges I heard just because I was sitting so close. Cam Reddish, who played very well all game, made back-to-back 3s late in the third quarter and came back to the bench cursing at himself before angrily taking a sip of water. Why, exactly? I wasn’t sure until John Collins laughed and said, “You know he be mad at himself for no reason.” And then, with 20 seconds left and the Hawks up 14, Ignas Brazdeikis drove in the lane and was met by backup center Gorgui Dieng, who was trying to take a charge. Lou Williams shot up from the bench and said, “What are you doing, man?! Let’s f***ing go home!” Everyone on the bench busted out in laughter. Because of the proximity to the floor and the opponent being 5-23, I figured this would be a good opportunity to just key in on Trae Young. I only watched what Young did on the floor and on the bench Wednesday night. He’s in the middle of the best season of his career, so I wanted to just watch what he does on the floor to gather insight into what he’s seeing on both ends. Here’s what I gathered by just watching Young in the Hawks’ 111-99 win over the Magic. Pregame Before every game, Young takes the floor at the 75-minute mark and warms up for 15 minutes. His routine is the same for each game. He’ll start off inside the arc putting up layups, then heads to the baseline to put up midrange jumpers. He doesn’t leave each spot until he makes five from each location on the floor. Against Orlando, he made his first 19 midrange jumpers before missing his first one from the top of the key. Improving his midrange game was one of the most important aspects of Young’s development this offseason. He came into the game shooting 47 percent from midrange, ranking in the 83rd percentile for all guards, per Cleaning the Glass. Young always works with assistant coach Nick Van Exel during his pregame routine..........Young attempts the most floaters in the league, so he puts in extra work with floaters during his routine. He’ll warm up with Van Exel lightly guarding him as Young runs by him for runners. Once he’s satisfied, he’ll move on to attempting at minimum 10 3s from the left corner, left wing, top of the key, right wing and right corner. Wednesday night, Young finished 34-of-58 from 3 in his warmups. He finishes his routine by making five free throws before sitting on the bench while watching Collins finish his own warmup routine. Once Collins is done, Young, while seated on the bench, will throw Collins a pass for a top-of-the-key 3 and then throw a bounce pass as Collins throws down a dunk. They do their signature handshake before Young runs into the tunnel to wait for the game to start. 5

I refuse to pay for the Atlantic as long as they have Buffalo reporter Tim Graham on the payroll. We have history. Hah, I got that with a local guy here in Atlanta. There are some students in GT football crowd that wear banana suit costumes. Stupid thing college kids do. They do it every game. Probably some hazing deal or w/e. Well, one Saturday we played a historically black college. So this local guy insinuated that the students did it as a racist gesture. IIRC, he suggested something like 'how could the administration/staff allow this ...'. Local sports people make a habit of taking shots at GT to endear themselves to the larger UGA fanbase, so veiled insults are nothing new. Well, as a black dude that graduated from there, I was incensed. That's not something a reporter can just casually say. That's a huge deal. I sent that dude an email with so many words I probably made George Carlin blush. The gist of it was to inform him he, as a "journalist"(sic), should do some homework before making such scathing accusations. He replied stte, "Bwah I was just reporting what I saw, blah, blah ..." Fkng coward. Now I see red every time I see his face or name.

It was about 10 years ago when Patrick Kane was falsely accused of rape. Tim Graham and a local Chicago radio sports update person Julie DiCaro went out of their way to attempt to convict Kane in the press. Even after it became obvious that Kane was victim of a scam DiCaro kept doubling down and trying to paint Kane as a rapist. (even to this day she still is trying). After the Buffalo DA held a press conference calling the "victim" a liar and saying how they were going to press no charges on Kane, DiCaro continued to report and opine as to Kane's guilt. The day the DA dropped the case DiCaro cried on Twitter about all the verbal abuse she was taking from Hawks fans. I responded on Twitter that she deserves all the twitter abuse she is getting. Tim Graham saw that and tried to cancel me. Posted my name and where I work on Twitter, lied and put a headline next to it that said "lawyer encourages death threats" and encouraged people to call and get me fired. I'm a self employed lawyer so that didn't work lol, but I did have a few crazies call up and talk shit to my receptionist. Shut down my twitter account as a result. So yea, Tim Graham is a POS who can go F himself. And as long as he is employed by The Athletic they will never get a dime from me. 1 1

Talk about projecting. You didn't do anything to paint a target or encourage threats but he absolutely painted a target on your back with a dishonest take on the situation. It is amazing how often people accuse others of what they are the ones doing anymore.

As I said before Mrs. Sothron and myself are huge Blackhawks fans and we followed that case closely. I knew from the start it was all lies. Kane would never rape a girl. It just isn't in his DNA to do something like that. That guy trying to ruin your career because of another "journalist" lying about something and you calling her out on it is sickening. I don't blame you for taking that stance.
Popular Post marco102
Quote 3. Trae Young's one-handed disguise At what point did you realize that was a pass? Here's how I reacted: Oh my god, why is Trae Young's layup traveling backward? Oh, wait. Young can gather and shoot without using his left hand. The defender backtracking with Clint Capela sometimes has no idea what Young is doing -- layup or pass? -- until the play is over. When you can't decide what to guard, you end up guarding nothing. Young can quick-shoot layups from unconventional angles: It hasn't gotten much play because of Atlanta's mediocre record, but Young is having his best season. The Hawks have scored 1.13 points per possession when Young shoots out of a pick-and-roll, or passes to a teammate who fires -- fourth among 96 ball handlers who have run at least 200 such plays, per Second Spectrum. That is the fattest number of Young's career, despite Young drawing shooting fouls at his lowest rate ever. The new officiating dictates have affected Young in style, but not substance. Atlanta has scored 116 points per 100 possessions with Young on the floor and 99 when he sits. That's larger than the difference between the league's best and worst offenses, and it's not a new trend. His 3-point rate is back up after dipping too low early. He needs to take more Curry-style step-back 3s when he draws big men on switches. There is a school of thought that teams that depend on one player to run their offense have no clue what to do when that player rests. It's too early to say that is why Atlanta's offense dies without Young. Backup point guard has been a weak spot some seasons. Injuries torpedoed plans to build more balanced rotations. But it's worth monitoring. That's another reason that first play -- the ultra-disguised lob to Capela -- stuck out: Young enters the action in a sprint, after a Bogdan Bogdanovic pick-and-roll on the other side. Young and the Hawks would benefit from more roving variety. 4

The stats are clear that we build leads with him in the game, and lose them when he is out. Trotting out Delon and about to retire Lou Williams is not the answer.
