These guys don't watch Hawks basketball lol their takes are so shallow and outdated. Nothing to substantiate this but I can imagine Rondo being one of the other guys -- he's been around successful coaches and poor coaches throughout his career, so he might be an opinion the front office values

Spud2nique
Trae JC Huerter Rondo Okongwu Cam, that’s about half the team. Possibly Bruno too.
Spud2nique
Reddish was one of the players who reportedly was unhappy with coach Lloyd Pierce, who was replaced by Nate McMillan on an interim basis last week.

Premium Member sturt Posted March 9, 2021 Premium Member Report Share Posted March 9, 2021 When I was in my 20s, I too thought my boss wasn't as smart as I was on more than one occasion, and I resisted some if not a lot of his/her guidance. I'm less interested in how the younger players thought about LP. I mean... really? If Schlenk cut LP on the basis of what any of them thought, he should be gone yesterday. I seriously doubt that was the case, me, but wouldn't pretend to know. Schlenk has never impressed me as someone who would allow that kind of thing to affect his judgment. But Capela? Maybe. Rondo? Maybe. But even those guys are limited. They're a half-season into their first with the team. Hopefully this was a decision made more on the basis of conversations with someone like Vince Carter, who has a wider appreciation for the pros and cons--having the benefit of so much experience with so many coaches, and yet also the benefit of being a longer-term asset within the organization. And. I hope our young bucks mature. Both on the floor and off it. I know I'm not alone.
Popular Post RedDawg#8
My feeling is it was much more to do with performance than anything. The players attitude towards the coach was just one symptom for the poor on court results, as well injuries, chemistry issues, decision making, etc... I think Schlenk looked hard at how we were performing, how we were losing, and who we were losing to, and realized that injuries or not, we were a team with much higher expectations than our results. The timing to me was strictly about salvaging a season that had been steadily slipping out of reach. Everything we wanted was still in front of us, but even as guys were coming back and getting comfortable, we were not competing the way could. Schlenk was patient when we lost 6 of 7 early. He forgave when we lost 7 of 8 in February. I think getting blown out by OKC basically, and getting our teeth kicked in against Miami game 1, Schlenk realized he could not sit back and allow another extended losing streak to occur. He wanted to set Nate up for success by giving him time before the break and during to prepare for the 2nd half of the season. I think if LP had won against OKC and Miami, he would still be here. If we were .500 at the break, that would have been ok. But we were 6 games under, and looking like we could drop the last 2 games and go 14-22. TS had to something. Whether the players loved LP or not, we were not performing the way we needed to, to reach the goals we ALL agreed to before the season. Conversely; if the players hated LP but we were winning, he would still be here. It's always about results. Moderators macdaddy Posted March 9, 2021 Moderators Report Share Posted March 9, 2021 He lost the team. And when you lose the team the team starts losing games. There was no recovering. I'm disappointed in a lot of things but i'm disappointed in LP to be honest. I didn't feel he owned the inconsistent play enough and I didn't feel he owned his fate at all. I could be wrong. I appreciate that he did everything he could to the best of his abilities but I'm just hopeful that this was growing experience for him.
