RedDawg#8
Duncan Robinson was a key starter for them. 2 of Cam, Kev and Dre will be coming off the bench for us over the next year or so. Even if you are an All Star talent, it's hard to show your maximum potential off the bench. That drives down price. (See Sabonis' deal, signed as a bench player before becoming an All Star) If these guys are able to break out in spite of their bench roles, then that means our team is a championship contender. In which case we have no problem breaking the bank to keep them on. We have to stop thinking with Spirit LLC mindset and realize that the current Owner is willing to do what it takes for a Championship. He is not satisfied with successful playoff teams that get bounced out. He is not trying play us cheap just to put out an exciting product with no hopes of going anywhere. Those days are over. Warriors were a laughing stock franchise for years, but they have spent whatever it took to squeeze every ring possible out of the Curry era. They are in tax hell, but they do not care because they know the window isn't forever. That is about to be us. For better or worse. We are ready to pony up and bring home the Larry O Brien.

They say he faded in the playoffs because his numbers dropped... well, they seem to forget how pivotal he was in the comebacks against Philly, without him there is zero chance we beat them. Zero. He had more clutch plays these playoffs than anyone not named Trae Young, Hawks played three absolutely elite defenses who's gameplan was to eliminate the lob attempts and force Trae to beat them, not a single player on the team outside of Trae saw an increase in their raw production as a result. Collins may never be a man who carries his team as a number 1 option, but we don't need him to be that. We need him to be an elite supporting player and he has proven he can do that. With more depth at the PG position, and Collins no doubt continuing to improve like he has done very single season, I have a feeling the 14-9 numbers on 63% TS everyone scoffs at will be his floor as far as playoff production goes, and I wouldn't be surprised if his deal three years from now ends up looking like a big time bargain. Folks forget, everyone not named Trae had their numbers fall off a cliff in the playoffs. John was still basically tied with Bogi as our 2nd leading scorer at 14 per game, and his rebounding actually went up in the playoffs. You could tell he had to adjust to the physical play, as he was getting elbowed and punched on one side but on the other end getting whistled for cheapies. Foul trouble kept him out of the lineup in at least 1/3 of the games. But we also don't win another 1/3 of the games without him. His percentages where great across the board, so he never played bad. Folks just wanted more assertion and production. I agree and am on record saying he has to bring the juice, the energy and intensity to the court for us. This whole "Calm, cool" thing was good for us at first, but Milwaukee was hustling and we never matched their energy. That has to change and John is the guy I think can do it single handedly. It was his first experience too, I have hope that he can improve based on knowing what to expect now.

Popular Post thecampster
Sometimes I outthink myself on these things but does anyone else think the best parts of Trae/JC signings is they can feel secure in mentoring JJ and Cooper? Like, does this help with the rooks' progress as well?

"According to sources with knowledge of thecampter's way of thinking, Atlanta drafted Jalen Johnson and Cooper as the eventual replacements for Trae and Jollins." - kgBomb To answer your question though, no I don't think the signings impact that at all. 1
thecampster
I'm probably as high as anyone on the draft picks this year but specifically Jalen. I'll feel better after a few summer league game if he shows out but in my convoluted self GM plan, I see them gauging Jalen at the trade deadline and decide if its okay to trade away Gallo at that time. If he isn't what they think he is right away, they hold Gallo till the end of the season and refocus their efforts next draft/off season.
Buzzard
Good signing. Collins is a integral part to the Hawks starting five. He plays PF/C interchangeably as his coach needs him. He improved his help defense this year. He also played a lesser roll and displayed a team first attitude. This is good for both parties!

Premium Member sturt Posted August 4, 2021 Premium Member Report Share Posted August 4, 2021 Wonder why Schlenk wanted the discount this season. But/and if it's true that JC's getting 8% raises, that means $135.75m total, if he accepts the 5th year.

Agree it is head scratching why they would not push as much salary into this season as possible or at least go flat.
Premium Member mrhonline Posted August 4, 2021 Premium Member Report Share Posted August 4, 2021 Knowing this, I'd prefer they sign a vet wing to a 1+1 (NG on 2nd year). Might help with the inevitable Gallo trade.
