One final thought.  Simmon's value has take a serious hit due to the mental health stuff his team floated to try getting him paid. None of the "legit" offers for Simmons would have been taken as serious offers a year ago but his value is very limited as teams are not sold he will play for them if traded for. They believe the sports psychology stuff is legit and not a bargaining ploy.

Every team is going to take the mental health issues seriously when trying to trade FOR Simmons -- the question of how serious they think the mental health issues are will show face at the deadline when the true final bids are in.

The two big red flags for his mental state are:

(1) his problems in the playoffs were serious and were all mental (he didn't just shoot 30-something% from the line against us and he completely avoided shooting the ball in the 4th quarter of multiple games)

(2) his reaction to all of this by taking his ball and going home raises questions about his competitiveness, commitment and mental state

When you add in the fact that his own people pushed the "mental health" angle in a very public way it adds to the concern.  You can see why his team would do it as a ploy to get paid.  But you also have to wonder whether there is something there.

He might have the yips.  May explain his hesitancy to shoot threes and the decline in free throw shooting.  You'll need a sports psychologist for that.

Yeah, there’s definitely ways to fix his game (a la Markelle Fulton and his free throws). The question though, is will he be open to it?

Just based on what I’ve seen with his inability to be open to shooting more 3s, reports on him, and how he’s handled his Philly situation I don’t see him coming in and just doing anything that is suggested for him to improve his game without him dictating. That’s why I’ve never been a fan of getting him unless he could be had really cheap as a backup PG and defensive specialist.

Yes, I agree with all of this.  I am just pointing out that it is still well before the trade deadline, so I imagine teams are using every bit of leverage possible in their "final" offers, including Simmons mental health.  We won't know if those teams are bluffing until Feb 10th (they very well might already have their best offers in as reported).

I won't comment on his mental state because I don't know him and I don't know his full situation.  I know that he had the yips for sure in the playoffs shooting an all-time low from the free throw line, and I know the team had clear locker room and chemistry issues.

Speculating from my vantage point, the mental health part of it is related to trusting his teammates and coaches. He was hurt last year when they took 3 days to defend him publicly after the series loss but the benching late in games over free throw shooting and some things said behind closed doors led to some distrust which may have boiled over with the multiple days to outright defend him.

I think from other teams' points of view, there would be questions about his sensitivity levels as well as any leftover problems with coaches and teammates who come at him a similar way. Any new city he goes to he is going to have to answer the same questions in the media that Philly was asking.

Atlanta media's a light weight compared to Philly though.  The only one who may get under his skin is Kirschner.

This isn't a shot at Kirschner, but he's the only who seems to ask the tough questions.

We aren't doing this again. The majority of scoops from @NBASupes, @thecampster, and @Sothron have turned out to be legitimate. We always get the articles during the end of the season and offseason saying exactly what their sources are saying now.

Thank you. This kind of skepticism, while I get it, gets old after awhile. Especially when other media sources start reporting the same kind of intel a day or two later after it is reported here by our guys with sources.
