I've got no real hopes for Knox here but I'll certainly root for him to improve as long as he wears a Hawks uniform.  He was underwhelming at UK with his inefficiency and that clearly carried over into the NBA.  For some players, it takes some time for them to mature (in every way) and the best  thing Knox has going for him is that he is only 22.  My guess is he won't be here long enough to make an impact even if he does ultimately turn the corner but, like I said, I'll root for him to take those next steps as long as he is here.

As far as his play in his 30 minutes here, it has been worse than his career numbers to date which means there is nothing really positive to offer on it but 30 minutes is really pretty meaningless for sample size.  So we'll see if he can improve as a Hawk at all going forward.  But I'm not expecting or counting on anything.

I don't expect Knox to be longterm... But a little context for Knox.

He went to NY with his flaws.  They were the worse team in the league.  And just like Bad teams do...

They played their rookie with flaws for 30+ mpg and let him feel the wrath of the NY media.  For those that pander for JJ to get PT with the big boys... note this cautionary tale called Kevin Knox II.   It's possible to take a player with flaws and to enhance them by giving him too much too soon.

Last year, the Knicks got Thibbs.  A new coach after enduring bad coaching before.   Thibbs is one way though.   At the beginning of the Season, Knox worked hard and became a specialist.  He was a three point shooter who hit 51% of his corner threes.   Then Thibbs fell in love with Grimes and Benched Knox.

I made this thread with the overwhelming idea that :

We can rebuild him... we have the technology.

That's a strong nod to the fact that he's broken in all kind of ways. Broken since UK.  BUT... He still has potential.  And we have a teaching coach and a PG who is a floor general.   In the 1 year that we will have him, it's my hope that he develops himself on our vaunted 2nd team.

Kevin Knox is a scrub,, but he has NBA wing size and can finish around the basket. He has shown he can give us 10 mins a game and not be a train wreck. Once Bogi gets back, that should be IT for Knox in the rotation but he seems like he can fill that 11th man / emergency wing spot adequatly.

Shakes:  One of my father's favorite - "Blessed is he who expects nothing for he shall not be disappointed."  Kevin Knox man never make it.  I will not give up on him yet.  He doesn't know the Hawk players right now and they don't know him.

I know that he plays for Atlanta and we win.  When he begins to cost us a victory, then I will begin to worry.  Until that happens I'm OK with our newest Hawk and I hope he does well.

Either way, you're my favorite poster here because your posts show up in bold and I can actually read them.    The normal print for this message board is way too light.

Most obvious attempt at targeting a particular poster with bait that I have seen in a while.  Obviously Knox is way better than Cam.  Right?  I mean who would possibly disagree with that?

Both have played for their new team and neither one of them has done great.  They both have to adjust to their new team.  Too soon to pass judgment on either one yet.

Let's "let it play out".

Knox might be the next Roshown McLeod!

The thing is that he has great size but nothing has ever been defined for him.   What's his position?  He doesn't know either.   I say let's see what he can do.

I say we rebuild him..

Trade him for a pick.  We need money for Hunter.

Unless they bring back the 10 round NBA draft there is no draft pick you are going to get for Fortnite.

We have a better chance of fixing the stupid scar on his forehead than fixing his game.

So the end result of the Luka for Trae deal was

#3 for

#5+#9 + 2022 1st (protected).

I'm still not seeing how anyone says we lost that trade when

Luka = 1st round exits and these stats this year.

BY YEAR TEAM GP MIN PTS FGM FGA FG% 3PM 3PA 3P% FTM FTA FT% OREB DREB REB AST TOV STL BLK PF FP DD2 TD3 +/-
2021-22 DAL 32 35.2 25.6 9.2 21.0 43.7 2.3 7.9 29.1 4.9 6.5 75.0 0.8 8.0 8.8 8.7 4.6 1.2 0.5 2.3 49.7 20 5

Trae = ECF appearance

BY YEAR TEAM GP MIN PTS FGM FGA FG% 3PM 3PA 3P% FTM FTA FT% OREB DREB REB AST TOV STL BLK PF FP DD2 TD3 +/-
2021-22 ATL 42 34.8 28.0 9.3 20.5 45.5 2.9 7.7 38.0 6.4 7.1 90.0 0.6 3.3 4.0 9.3 4.1 1.0 0.1 1.6 45.7 21 0 1.0

Trae is winning in games played PPG, FG%, 3PT%, FT%, ASS, TOV, +/-

yeah, I think people don't really understand how talented Trae is offensively.  He creates more points than anyone in the league by a wide margin.  I was thinking about this last night watching him play... like, I just take for granted how effortlessly he carves up defenses and creates easy looks.  I forget how frustrating it is to watch a team without good PG play like the Knicks or Celtics.  A lot of people here take that for granted as well I'm sure.

With that said, my view on evaluating trades that involve future assets should just be judged based on the future assets and not what those assets are used for (i.e drafting Cam).  Have to judge based on what both parties knew at the time and Schlenk didn't know he was getting Cam with that pick.  I always thought of it like another opportunity to land a potential star player or at minimum, solid starter.  More opportunities = better.  Trae could have busted, Luka could have busted, Cam could be a bust... you never know any of that 100% when picking, so I don't really see a winner or loser, but I've always agreed with Schlenks strategy of maximizing the number of top 10 picks you get in a short window.  We ended up with a clean and fast rebuild and are now (hopefully!) developing our way into contention.

We can resign him for a year to play the "Solo" role. Wing depth is hurting with him and Cam gone.

as much as I hate Solo, at least Solo tries on defense and knows where to stand on a basketball court.

Shakes...  It sounds personal for you.   You must be one of the NY transplants.  Or you hate KU.

My thing is that we have a 6'9" solid built wing who hit 51% of his corner threes last season.

A few yrs ago, this is what was said about him:

Quote

Knox is a versatile forward, who earned first team All-SEC and was conference co-freshman of the year …. He has all the tools to score at three different levels … Projects as a solid role player that can potentially grow into a dangerous scorer at the next level … Will likely need to further develop his defense and vision to reach his potential.

I'm not contradicting anything that has been said about him.  I still believe that he has that potential.  He's not Jordan or Kobe.  Not KG or Iguodala.  But he has the potential to be a role player and a dangerous scorer.

it's all personal.   I follow exactly one professional sports team in the entire world.  The Atlanta Hawks.  That's it.  No football, baseball, hockey or anything else.   Just the Hawks.  People keep talking about all these stupid football games that were on this weekend and I'm just like, "who cares, did you see that foul on Hunter in the 20 point Hawks blowout of Charlotte?".

And I do hate KU.  But KU is Kansas.  Kentucky is UK.

Nothing personal against Knox, just know he completely sucks and has thumbed his nose at being a professional.   Is known to do no work on his game.    His very existence is an insult to anyone who ever busted their ass to become a better player.

Well,

That's interesting.   Glad you are a Hawks fan.  But will have to see what happens. I'm hoping that Knox proves you wrong.

I definitely hope he proves me wrong.  But, he won't.  I spent enough time driving around Lower Wacker Drive to be able to recognize a bum when I see one.
