Here we go.. after listening to the talk about Bogi's issue of coming off the bench...

We are going to make this question easy.

Was it a mistake to give Kev the new deal?

Crawford was paid for his one moment in the sun way above market rate for his production.  He averaged 6.6 points a game for his career.

Huerter was paid market rate for his production as a young wing.  Don't think the situations are analogous.

I don't think we overpaid for Heurter.  I think he's on a fair deal.  His deal could even look like a good one if he improves a little over the next couple years.  He plays average defense and is a good floor spacer/3P shooter.  He can also work mismatches (see game 7).  He also seems to be a very solid team-first guy which is valuable in the NBA.  He's not one to ever complain about touches, usage, starter/bench, bigger role, etc.  There's a reason GMs all over the league are calling about him.

This thought started to enter my mind after seeing the guy below in PTL. After we missed out on him during the trade period.

Hart is getting 12.64 per...

And below is a guy getting paid $18M per year... Josh Hart is underpaid imo and I think I'm not the only one that feels that way.  His attitude probably has something to do with that, but if you look more broadly at similar guys who just signed deals, Heurter feels right where he should be.

Kevin will play in this league for at least 10 more years. Despite his defense, he's a decent 3 level scorer that will always be a serviceable starter alongside an all-star.

His contract also has great value, because if they do decide to trade him, he can be part of a package to bring another star player back.

I can see Kevin becoming a more efficient player in which he becomes a solid 40% 3 pt shooter who can also score a little better in the midrange.

Prime Kevin probably shoots 47% FG - 41% 3FG and is a 17 ppg scorer.  His ceiling is Tyler Herro / Tim Hardaway Jr.

If he ever decided to unleash all of his athleticism and play with a little more toughness, he will command a big number on his next contract.
