Hopefully this isn't additional incentive for Hawks to stay under the tax line. "well we're spending $3 million more"

Premium Member JayBirdHawk Posted June 25, 2023 Premium Member Report Share Posted June 25, 2023 Exhibit 10 deals: According to Charania, players who sign Exhibit 10 training camp deals will be getting a significant increase in bonus pay. Those players are currently eligible for a bonus worth up to $50K if they’re waived before the regular season starts and spend at least 60 days with a team’s G League affiliate — in the new CBA, that bonus is worth $75K. As Charania notes, that change will impact roughly 60% of players in the NBA G League.
Premium Member JayBirdHawk Posted June 25, 2023 Premium Member Report Share Posted June 25, 2023 New Second Round Pick Exception: The contract value of the new second-round pick exception can be worth up to the equivalent of the minimum for a third-year player — that would be $1,836,090 for 2022/23, whereas a rookie minimum is worth $1,017,781. The new exception can be used to sign contracts that cover up to four years. This is a new exception means teams don't need to have capspace or to use MLE, TMLE, BAEs to sign 2nd rounded players to longer contracts 3+ years.

Being able to sign them for up to 4 years is a nice change as well. Hopefully one of our second rounders this year will prove to be worth that.

Moderators macdaddy Posted August 17, 2023 Moderators Report Share Posted August 17, 2023 I can't wait to see how we save money next. This offseason combined with a new CBA makes the possibilities tantalizing.
Premium Member JayBirdHawk Posted January 30 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 30 Hawks have 12 contracted players for next season at $163,292, 574. So we are over the salary cap by $22 million, but we are also under the Luxury Tax $8.8 million.

Anyone have a realistic example of how we could use that $25.2 million? it has to be for a single player right?

No. We used the JC $23 mil TPE to trade for Nance, Daniels, Lydell and Zeller. (that's how we ended up with this new DJ TPE) So it can be broken up into smaller contracts and can be used through out the season. So example: we can use $10 mil now and have $15 left over to use at the trade deadline or until 07/07/25.

But realistically unless you believe we are willing to pay the tax we can't do anything with it without dumping salary to create room to use it. So if you want to use $10M now, you probably need to salary dump CC or Hunter and take back a smaller salary so that you will still be under the tax after you make that $10M addition. I'm not seeing a lot that the TPE does for us given my assumption that we won't pay the tax.
