Gray Mule
FINE. Hold everything hostage for another 24 hours. Hawks trade two players who didn't play for two different players. Bruno Fernando and Garrison Mathews are now New Hawks! That deal is complete. Saddiq Bey is in limbo. Either the entire deal goes through or none of it. If this deal is canceled, I'm going to be mad. We make a deal. Detroit is happy - - Atlanta is happy.

GSW still need to do the deal to save money. Trade hasn’t been finalized yet (all teams must sign off). Since GPII failed his physical, GS has the ability to cancel the entire deal by Sunday evening. This means Bey is technically still a Piston and will not be able to play for us until GS waives the failed physical. Financially, it makes sense for GS to sign off on the deal (I think it saves them ~$100m in tax) and take it up with the NBA for POR to be fined. Them waiting to decide doesn’t hurt them anyway (GPII can’t play) so they are likely looking at all options, but at the expense of other teams in the deal. The questions I have are: 1. How did the GS deadline move from today to tomorrow (was it reported wrong initially)? 2. How does this affect FO relationships between these teams the longer this limbo lasts? bleachkit
Would surprise me if GS wanted to stick it to Atlanta. They aren't happy with how Schlenk's dismissal was handled.

Premium Member sturt Posted February 11, 2023 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 11, 2023 What? Who said Schlenk was "dismissed?" To the contrary, what we've been told is that between Schlenk's family health issue and his frustration with Ressler's resistance to paying LT, that the guy hired in September 2020 to be groomed to take his place, was going to be given the driver's seat. (Sometimes it feels like, in the absence of friction and drama, we're all too ready to assume friction and create the drama for ourselves... just sayin.) To the actual thrust of the post, though, let's even take this modified more controversial version of the episode as fact. What the hell does GSW care at this point? Damn, they have a championship to win... how is that interest somehow subjugated to a higher priority of exacting some justice on Atlanta? Portland screwed them directly by trading damaged goods to them... an asset they believe helped their cause in a big way just last post season. This isn't about Atlanta. It's about what they believe is best for that cause in the hear and now, and if there's anyone they'd like to upset, though, it would be Portland.

Premium Member JayBirdHawk Posted February 11, 2023 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted February 11, 2023 Interesting: from a Blazer fan: .......the stuff yesterday came from Payton, or his people, not from the Warriors. There were some hard feeling between Payton and the Blazers and the Blazer players were not happy with Payton. And that includes Lillard and Little, two players who had the same surgery as Payton. Lillard had the surgery last January and said he could have played in late March but the Blazers were engaged in a full tank. Little had the surgery is May and was back doing full workouts by the 1st of August. Not one single Blazer player posted a thing about Payton leaving. They all did for Josh Hart Payton had the surgery in July and didn't play until 6 months later. And this was after having been cleared to play for weeks, not only by Blazer doctors but by the unaffiliated surgeons in Philadelphia that performed the surgery. .......what I find most interesting is why are PTL players keep needing to get abdominal surgery????

Premium Member Sothron Posted February 12, 2023 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 12, 2023 GSW is trying to get Portland fined or punished with pick loss over this fiasco. Meanwhile, for us, Bey can't play or do anything with the team until this is over with. There's a real chance this trade gets nixed and Bey goes back to Detroit. I think, this is just me here, that GSW will sign off on the trade and wait to see if GPII can play because moving Wiseman saves them a WHOLE LOT of luxury tax money.

Their 'return' was getting off Wiseman. The new 'return' is messin' with POR. They need to stop acting like this is about Payton.

Premium Member JayBirdHawk Posted February 12, 2023 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted February 12, 2023 Per BSPN.. After Payton arrived in a Thursday trade with the Portland Trail Blazers, a physical revealed that he would be out for a significant part of the remaining season, sources said. The Warriors have shared with the league office that they believe Portland withheld relevant medical information prior to agreeing on the trade, sources said. The trade can't be amended or changed because the league's trade deadline passed on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET. The NBA could punish Portland with a fine and loss of draft picks if an investigation were to discover "a failure to disclose relevant information" on Payton's abdominal injury that required offseason surgery and had him miss the first 35 games of the season. The Warriors believe they should've been told that Payton had been using Toradol shots to alleviate pain, sources said, something that's more typically done for players in the playoffs rather than the regular season.
