Thank you DJ! This is huge.

NO we don't.

We're a .500 ballclub and have been for basically the past 2 seasons.

We could desperately use another significant piece on our team, so that we can further define roles around here.

I'm a Change Agent by profession.  People are just afraid of change and get use to the "controlled chaos" that they've always been.

If people trust Quin as a coach, why wouldn't you trust Quin to be able to manage 3 major pieces on a team?  Quin didn't come back to be a part of a rebuilding project with a bunch of kids.  If he's forced to play with them, he'll do the best he can.

But he came back to coaching to win at a higher level.  Otherwise, he would've taken the Detroit or Houston job.

Once again, you don't trust Quin.

You really think you have seen Quin coach these Hawks...

Those 20 games (yes 20) with Nate's system is not a depiction of Quin Snyder's ability with this team.   That's the problem.   You have taken those 20 games as a referendum on his ability.   With Nate's sorry system and Nate's coaches.. Quin Beat Miami soundly in the playin game and put together a plan that put the former EC Champs on their heels.

That's what he could do with Nate's stuff.  Yet, you're afraid to see what he can do with his own stuff... So in Babcock fashion you just want us to do anything.... and possibly wreck the future.   Change agent???  About Knee Jerk Specialist.

This is indefensible. Way to throw your reputation(and legacy with PTL fans) in the trash.

This is exactly the garbage we were debating about.  Literally threatening to breach his contract.  If he doesn't report, he won't get paid but that doesn't mean anyone who is trading for him would be ok with that.

Can/will the league step in here? What's stopping the Heat from saying "your options are let him waste away and not play for your team or take Salary filler and a 2RP from us"? The only other option the Blazers have is to hope some team just says screw it and calls Dame's bluff.

Or the NBA steps in ala CP to the Lakers.

There's no real way to confirm it, but how do we know Dame isnt "colluding" with the Heat in order to keep their roster and future as strong as possible here?

Lowry(or Herro) plus Robinson for Dame works financially. What if that is the deal? What if Dame is purposefully making it so the Heat dont have to give up Martin, the young guys, or picks by completely kneecapping the market?

Doubtful.  The NBA has allowed players to get away with this in the past.  Not good for fans or the game.  I think the biggest reason that Miami wouldn't tighten the screws to that degree is because it might force the league to step in.  As long as they keep their offer somewhat credible, I think the NBA will remain hands off.

The situation with the NBA stepping in ala CP was unique because NO was being run by the league and they essentially stepped in to overrule the NO GM like owners sometimes do.  No team is being run by the league anymore so this won't repeat.  If the NBA were to step in, it would have to be different from the Paul situation.

That's exactly what he's doing.  Folks don't want to be like Carmelo who gutted the Knicks via the trade to land him.  Doesn't make it ok though.

If I'm POR, I call his bluff.  IDGAF if it means I take a lesser deal.  With MIA, that's what I'd be doing anyways.  Atleast my way, you get to keep your dignity.

Me too.  I hold out at least until the trade deadline if his behavior is crushing the non-MIA trade market.  Either MIA ups its offer or I hold and wait for a bit.  I'm not accepting garbage like Lowry and Robinson for Dame.  I'd rather Dame sit at home until I'm ready to trade him and I'd file with the league asking them to step in behind the scenes and try to gather support among the non-MIA owners who might either be interested in trading for a Dame who is willing to play or who might fear one of their own players pulling this kind of garbage in the future.  If push comes to shove, I think Lillard will show up to play for Portland because he won't want to lose millions by sitting at home.  (This is the scenario that often results in Portland telling him to stay at home and paying him while they continue to shop him.)

Yeah, was typing just this but you beat me to it, particularly the bolded parts.  Portland has no choice but to call Dame's bluff.  They should absolutely sit on him until the deadline and watch Miami run it back with washed up Lowry at PG.  Right now, every GM seems to be cautious about making big moves as the field seems wide open to compete.  There will be plenty of teams that will underperform expectations by the trade deadline that might believe Dame can put them over the hump.  Potential teams that might fall in that category: Celtics, Minny, Sixers, Cavs (unhappy Mitchell), Knicks, Pels (Zion gamble), and maybe the Clippers or another fringe team.  If I'm Portland, I just sit in on my hands until I get what I want.  They could drag this out to next offseason and Dame's value will still be higher than Lowry/Herro and trash filler.  He'll still have two+ prime years left on his contract.

Rowland(?) I think was talking about how it's not so much Dame sitting out as it is his agent basically blackballing whatever team trades for him with declining pre-draft workouts and free agents.

Which, come on Silver. Do something about that.

The other benefit of making Miami wait is they cannot do anything with their flawed roster.  They can't make moves they would otherwise make because they're also being held hostage by this negotiation.  So Portland slamming the brakes also messes them up if the Dame situation is not resolved.  I suspect they will come to an agreement this summer and Miami will end up giving a much bigger haul over to Portland than they wanted.  Only other option is for them to rug sweep Lillard and decide he's not worth it, which seems extremely unlikely given their collusion up to this point.
