I think Hunter isn't happy, Quin isn't happy with him, and they want better chemistry.  There are guys out there that can give us good play but not sure we'll get them in return.   Especially if we're receiving a pick.

I'm not on board for dumping Hunter with no replacement.

Where is the evidence?  Or are you just making this up?

This is why i put the "I think" in front of it.   geez.

There has to be evidence for you to even think such a radical claim but anyway never mind.  @AHF is total correct.  Why am I bothering to engage.  Its the front office that matters.

New Blockbuster Three-Team Trade Proposal Sends Kuzma to Sacramento, Atlanta Moves Hunter To Bolster Wing Depth (msn.com)

I didn't click it.... because the idea of us dealing our most versatile wing to bolster wing depth doesn't make sense.

Why is Hunter such a "bad contract"?  I just don't get it.

What should a 6'8" wing who is 26 years old and averages 15ppg, shoots nearly 40% from three, and is a solid defender make?  20m/year too much?  Would you rather have OG at 43 million?

He is not a bad contract at all.  No need to trade him until at least the deadline unless we want to make our team worse in 24-25, which makes no sense b/c we don't own our 1st for the next 3 years anyway.

There are ways to look at him that make his deal look good and others that make it look very bad.  5 years into his career he has a total of 7.6 Win Shares for example.  That is a lower average per season than Aaron Nesmith (who will be earning $11M per year) and Bennedict Mathurin from the Pacers.  Paying $22M for that kind of production is not something any team is hoping for.  It is a combination of his injuries and his woeful standing by a lot of advanced metrics.  (His total from last year was equal to what AJ Griffin totaled his rookie season.)

On a per minute basis, OG averages .098 WS/48 while Hunter averages .045 WS/48 for their careers.  That said, I don't like OG on a $43M contract either.

As our roster currently sits, he has an important role to play regardless of whether he is starting or not.  Hunter fills a role that is tough to replace.  We need to be very thoughtful about any trade involving him this summer.

I don't know what goes into win shares but I do know that Hunter has been misused a lot as a power forward where he is less effective.   Hopefully going forward everything will fit better.

The rest of the deal includes sending out Bruno...so Hawks get to save an additional $5.3 million this year and an additional $8 million next year when Trey Lyles expires 😐.

The word on Kispert:

Quote

Atlanta would do this deal in order to move off of Hunter's deal and land his replacement in Kispert. I also wrote about Kispert's game in an earlier piece:

"Kispert is more of a bench scorer, but still averaged a career-best 13.4 points, 2.0 assists and 2.8 rebounds. The enticing parts of his profile are his 38.3% shooting percentage from three on an impressive six attempts per game and 90th percentile mark as a finisher around the rim."

Amidst a rough season for the Wizards, Kispert stood out as the team's three-point specialist. The problem is that his ancillary skills are underdeveloped. He is not a good rebounder, struggles on defense and needs to work on his playmaking. However, his fit as an offensive player is very seamless around someone like Trae Young. Atlanta does not necessarily need him to be a heightened playmaker since both Young and Johnson can handle those responsibilities. In a reduced context where he is forced to work on his defense and rebounding in order to stay on the court, I believe it is likely he can become...

This isn't a possibility is it?  1st of all, how does Atlanta absorb all of those players?

Schlenk reuniting with his boys Hunter and Heurter

We do get it that SI, now, is not really a sports reporting outlet so much as it is essentially just another blogger site... yes?

So, that said and just taking this on its face as any other somewhat intelligent NBA fan's trade proposal showing up on the internet... it's damn hard for me to imagine APR giving Schlenk the potential satisfaction of seeing Hunter blow it up in a WAS uniform... think that's a no-go, given the conservative risk tolerance. Would think that that much practically all of us could agree to.

We are sending out 2 - DH and Bruno, taking on 3....it would require us to release Garri Bird, he has a non guaranteed contract as well. His contract is fully guaranteed 01/10/25.

I would have said years (and would have felt optimistic about it, at that), but okay. 😉
