Can we at least acknowledge what Woj ACTUALLY said? He didn't say we are having trade talks. He said, "This is a tremendous opportunity for Atlanta to start reshaping their roster. They had Dejounte Murray in trade talks. I think the possibility of trade talks including Trae Young in this spring and into the summer are very real too, but that number 1 overall pick now for the Hawks gives them a chance to bring in an impact player if they decide to maybe go younger and start maybe rebuilding this group." He's not sourcing this. He's not saying they are already having trade talks. He's giving his opinion in light of the number 1 pick and saying this allows the Hawks the flexibility to go younger if they want to. You are taking statement completely out of context and tweaking it to read like the Hawks are already in discussions to trade Trae, and then extrapolating from there. 1

The dude is 7'1, super long and athletic, already a pretty good defender and has lots of potential as a shooter. He's already a 70+% FT shooter which is a pretty good indicator of longer term shooting success. It's basically everything we've needed (yes he is still raw and has some bulking to do) and folks are trying to justify an alternative. No thanks, take him and move on. 5

Premium Member georgia Posted May 13 Premium Member Report Share Posted May 13 I think based on readings is to trade Trae maybe and keep Murray. Will see. We’d be dumb to trade both. Murray is about on as good of a deal as there is. Plus, Quinn ain’t here to rebuild.

But does that really mean anything in the NBA? This feels like people trying to pigeonhole financial stuff into NFL reasonings. Like the "rookie QBs don't have to be great, their contract is still a cheat code". That's not the same for the NBA. Is there any evidence of "keep the cheap one" working in the NBA? Every team in the playoffs has a max guy(or soon to be). Sure DJM+another Max star player is better than what we have, but I don't see how that is anyway possible for this team during his contract. Afro
Didn't the Sixers keep Tobias over Butler because he was the cheaper one, or am I misremembering that?

I don’t think we should trade Trae but at this point, I do think there is a real chance it happens. If that proves true, I hope we at least keep Murray and get another star back for pair with Murray and keep #1 pick.
REHawksFan
9 minutes ago, Mikey said: there is your aggregation That just seems obvious. He should have just quoted Trae on his Pod where he said he wants to win now and he understands that sometimes teams aren't about that right now. He also said he wants to be a Hawk and hasn't mentioned forcing a trade anywhere. It's obvious Trae wants to win now and as long as the Hawks are working in that direction, he'll be on board. I actually think a lot of the public supposition about Trade being traded is just educated guesses that with the 1st pick, the hawks may desire to rebuild instead of continuing on and if they do, trading Trae is going to get them the most assets in return PLUS he's not going to want to play through a rebuild. I personally think this logic is flawed and ridiculous because trying to rebuild with the Spurs seems perilous and dumb. 3
Moderators Popular Post AHF Posted May 13 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted May 13 Will just say this once. I enjoy watching big men shoot undefended jumpers in a gym but I've seen too many clips of Shaq, etc. draining jumpers to buy into that. I expect our front office has better data to use to determine if guys are projectable to develop viable jumpers in the NBA. (Heck, I'd just look at ft% over summer gym clips). 7
