Worst-case scenario for Sarr? A 7-foot, athletic, rim-running, shot-blocking big with playmaking upside who can finish lobs in the vein of Dereck Lively II. Best-case scenario? The shot continues to develop and now we're talking about a truly special two-way player. One source I talked to said he believes Sarr can be a "franchise player" five or six years down the road, so the Hawks won't hesitate to take him No. 1 in a draft sorely lacking high-ceiling prospects.

1. Atlanta Hawks: Alex Sarr, PF/C, Perth Wildcats

1 OF 30

CHICAGO, IL - MAY 13: Alexandre Sarr shoots the ball during the 2024 NBA Combine on May 13, 2024 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois. So, this actually goes against predictions in the latest mocks from B/R's Jonathan Wasserman and ESPN's combo of Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo, all of whom put Zaccharie Risacher in the top spot. And maybe that winds up being the direction Atlanta ultimately goes.

Still, Alex Sarr's unique blend of size, fluidity, defensive versatility and offensive potential, arguably, give him the highest ceiling in this class. And when there isn't a clear-cut prospect at the top of the class, swinging for the most upside feels like the best move, even if it's unclear where the franchise is headed.

If Sarr's shot-making develops, he could be a star. At worst, he's an all-purpose stopper with the handles and vision to make plays on the move. At best, he's a perennial All-Defensive candidate with range, creation and a knockout-powered scoring punch

2024 NBA Draft projections

No. 1 overall pick, Atlanta Hawks

Kevin O'Connor, The Ringer: Zaccharie Risacher, SF, JL Bourg (France)

O'Connor writes: "Risacher seems like the most likely choice at this point for the Hawks; he’s a theoretical 3-and-D wing who can fit whether or not they keep Trae Young. I’m not as high on Risacher as others are, due to his lack of a proven jump shot and his lack of shot-creation skills. But there’s no doubt he can defend."

Hoopshype

https://hoopshype.com/lists/aggregate-2024-nba-mock-draft-post-combine-intel-bronny-james-to-lakers/

(Perth Wildcats: Center, International, 7-1)

Previous rank: 1 (-) / Best rank: 1 / Worst rank: 2

Alex Sarr was nearly the unanimous No. 1 overall pick in the HoopsHype aggregate mock draft, with only Bleacher Report predicting the Atlanta Hawks would take Zaccharie Risacher.

The 7-foot-1 Frenchman intrigues NBA executives with his athleticism as a shot blocker and switchable defender, the coordination to push the ball in transition, and can draw enough attention as a shooter to spread the floor beyond the arc as he works to become a more consistent threat.

Sarr believes he’s the best player in the draft and publicly made it clear he wants to be the No. 1 pick.

“I want to be first in everything,” Sarr said. “I don’t know if it’s that important because I can’t control it, but of course it means something.”

With less than a month to go before the draft, Atlanta is working through all possible scenarios, including selecting Sarr or Risacher, whom the Hawks immediately flew overseas to watch after the lottery with general manager Landry Fields, assistant general manager Kyle Korver, and head coach Quin Snyder on hand.

Following the combine and pro day events for several agencies, there remains a belief around the league that Atlanta will break up the backcourt pairing of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray. Several executives who spoke with HoopsHype say they value Murray over Young due to his contract length and average annual salary.

Should the Hawks select Sarr, center Clint Capela – who will be in the final year of his contract worth $22.27 million – is expected to be discussed in trade talks. Hawks forward De’Andre Hunter was another name rival executives expected to become available for Atlanta as the draft nears.

NBA draft room

https://nbadraftroom.com/p/2024-nba-mock-draft/

1 Hawks Alexandre Sarr C – Perth Wildcats, NBL (France) – HT: 7-1 – WT: 224 – WING: 7-4 1/4 – Int.05 – The Hawks need to get this one right. All indications are that they will stay at the top of the draft and likely select between Sarr and Risacher. Sarr is a great upside swing and would give a much needed influx of talent up front. He’d benefit from the slick passing of Young and Murray (assuming both are back) but wouldn’t necessarily move the needle for the Hawks in year one. The Hawks don’t have their first round pick next year and will be incentivized to play winning basketball. Top French Prospects

9 major mocks right there and it’s 7-2 Sarr>Risacher for the Hawks at #1.

77.777778  right there going to Sarr.

We can’t mess this up again.

Top 10 picks only.

1985- Koncak over Karl Malone and others.

1992- Keefe over Horry Sprewell

2000- DerMarr Johnson overJamal Crawford, Quentin, Hedo

2001- Gasol (right pick but traded it)

2004- Childress over Iggy, Al Jeff..

2005- Marvin Williams over cp3 Deron

2006- Shelden over a lot of folks

2018***  Trae is the dude for me.

2019- Hunter/Cam (4,10th) Cameron Johnson

1991-plastic man 9th

1999-Terry 10th

2007- Alice 3rd 🥉

One could put Hali or Vassell down for the OO draft, but I know that Hali supposedly didn’t want to come to Atlanta.

What must it be like to be someone like JJJ and see everyone clowning on Rudy and to know your playoff record is absolute garbage compared to Rudy and Rudy dominated head to head when you did match up?
