Allen should be target #1, agreed. But we’re also going to need a scorer to take some of that burden off of Trae.

Assuming we keep Trae (I’ll keep saying this until it’s concrete he’s staying)….i like the moves we made BUT yes we need another scorer and badly.

preferably one who isn’t ball dominant. I think Ayton should be the clear #1 target. It’s too good of a fit and always has been.

Any trade is a shock but I agree with this sentiment now. I’m eager to see what transpires between now and July 7th.

More bad trades and deals

They didn't want to include him. They would have meant another roster spot. I've been told to hold off on judging the offseason until they finish making their moves from a Hawks source.

I’m going to judge each move as it happens but the entire offseason only when it was done.  Here is the analogy.

I said the JC for garbage trade was crap last year when it happened. Clearly we could have gotten more from him by managing that in a better way (most notably by trading him earlier) and we sold at the bottom of his value for no basketball reason (just a $$ reason).  But I recognized that we also got the TPE and that could end up being used to add a great player so that not only would we not be paper thin at PF necessarily we could end up picking up a great player.

So final judgement comes now as the TPE expires unused for any purpose that we could not have accomplished without it:  It was a s**t trade that left us undermanned last year and hurt us on the basketball court and served no purpose other than dodging the tax.  On the buy low, sell high spectrum TS bought high and LF sold low.  Front office fail.

(Fool me once on the TPE.  To do something we can’t do without it means using it in a way to add salary we could not otherwise have added.  We essentially “used it” to renew it at a smaller value.  That is better than nothing but only becomes something meaningful when actually used to add a contract you could not have added without it.  Do we Charlie Brown fans think that the FO is going to do that this time now that this new TPE has been created?  Line that football up and let’s see.)

How about this deal ?

Start Thybulle at the 2:

I’m not opposed to adding Thybulle who was 2nd team all defense 21 & 22 and he has slightly gotten better at the 3ball. He shot 34% from 3 last season but with Hawks U in full effect that’s something Synder and Korver can continue to help him work on. I don’t need to speak on his defense…dude has made 2 all defense nba teams in his very short career so far.

Ayton our 2nd go to scorer:

Not going to repeat it for the 100th time…yes I am…Ayton is a perfect fit next to Trae and dude is 7’1 center that can drop buckets at will (especially with a point like Trae). The defense is there we’ve seen it in PHX, the right environment will bring it out and I believe that is here in Atlanta.

Replace Bruno with Robert Williams:

Robert when healthy was a force. Much better than Bruno and a better big to start in case of injury.

image.thumb.png.d4bd68e6c46f1cb60e41d03f45a4dcd2.png

Starters:

Trae (our superstar)

Thybulle (POA defender)

Risacher (6’9 - 3 & D)

Jalen (6’8 - Point forward - all around player)

Ayton (7’1 - all star big man with Trae)

Bench:

Bufkin (We’ll see what he got in year 2)

Bogi (6th man - may have to run point for bench unit)

Dyson (6’7 defensive stopper)

Nance (6’8 vet backup PF)

OO (specialist situational big man, minutes at 4 & 5)

Robert Williams (situational backup big man, should get some minutes if healthy)

Honestly. I like it

Trae

Daniels

Risacher

JJ

That's a good fit on paper. They just gotta improve. Daniels can't shoot it like he did last year. Trae will get to dominate the rock again, he gotta be patient but their need for a center is more massive than ever

Well, is a questionmark if they start Daniels and Risacher or Daniels and Hunter or Bogi and Hunter or Bogi and Risacher. At the end I think they look at mixing youth and veterans and start their 1st rd pick. So I see something as

Trae/Bufkin

Risacher/Bogi

Hunter/Daniels

JJ/Nance

?/OO

About scoring I think JJ should improve his numbers, he was at 17 ppg post all star, and become the 2nd option on offense, as was JC. You surround Trae and JJ with Hunter and Richaser that can shoot and defend. The question mark is the starting C, need to be a stretch 5 who can open the paint for Trae and JJ.

The second unit will be Bogi’s unit. Bufkin and Daniels can defend, probably we need another scoring wing to help the 2nd unit scoring, the question then is who starts at PG Bufkin or Daniels, at PF it would be Nance or Gueye and OO is just fine at backup C.

I don’t mind this at all. I am a little nervous about relying on Ayton as a second scorer though. Can be be that consistently? JJ should definitely be able to step up next year, too.

I’d also love for us to have another vet with strong playoff / championship experience.

All that said: I do like Robert Williams, and I don’t see us getting pushed around on the court with this roster.

I guess my question now is do we have more flexibility with these two recent trades to sign a FA or trade for a star? I also still think we need a center. I’d prefer Allen over Ayton I think.

I prefer Okongwu over both.  It should be obvious that Atlanta is going to be anything but traditional on defense.  Allen is OK, but he’s a traditional big.  Ayton is a complete nonstarter.

I’m hoping for Hunter to Cleveland for Isaac Okoro in a SNT deal.

Why though? Isn’t he more inconsistent than Hunter? Not really up on his game, but the times I watched him he didn’t seem great. Got some dawg though.

Okoro is a better perimeter defender.

I rather have Thybulle over okoro.

Thybulle has already shown progress of being a capable 3pt shooter and is a better defender.

We have lost all leverage in any negotiations. We have become a glorified developmental team for other teams that are really trying to compete. Everyone is now looking to take advantage of us. Their pride won’t let them offer a fair deal to the Hawks. The other issue I am seeing with Ressler besides not spending money, is lack of loyalty especially those who did what they were supposed to. If you continue  cutting bait as soon as something goes wrong and do not commit to a vision, it can cause unnecessary turbulence. Gave DJ a longterm deal which he sacrificed dollars because he wanted to stay here and then you turn around a trade him for peanuts a year later after he has his best statistical year.

I don’t mind a trade for Jarrett Allen at all but again where is your secondary bucket getter in this lineup???

Trae, Daniels, Risacher, Jalen, Allen

do you guys really believe Risacher and Jalen can be hi to scorers when Trae is trapped ?? Because that lineup absolutely puts that pressure on them.

i just don’t think they are ready for that and it’s asking for a lot out of them.

Some of you are acting like offense doesn’t matter at all with your suggestions.

i get it we need defense more than anything but you can’t just ignore the offense.

The center I would target is Jalen Smith.

I agree with that, I always thought he would be a great fit here but as backup Big, I don't see him starting.
