I always had a feeling that his heart was never really in basketball. That's why I wasn't shocked that his second year went the way it did.

You couldn’t steal the smile off of his face as a rookie. I remember being jealous of how pure his energy was in every interview.

To go from that to this is very sad. He is a human and we all fall down from time to time. I just pray he finds his way back to that joyful 19 year old again.

This should be surprising to no one. He’s a religious bigot that will probably become a Creflo Dollar type conman. Sorry but after his judgemental posts about Beyonce or anyone attending concerts like hers to being a promoter of Satan, we knew this guy was screwed up in the head.

I hear you but this all seems really sad.  His whole religious 'thing' seems to illustrate a pretty severe lack of true understanding.  

I feel sorry for him.  Perhaps he's being influenced by the wrong people.

You can have religious beliefs and also have real mental issues. AJ had them his rookie season but it really got out of control his second season.

He needs therapy and help. I hate as a hawks fan we wasted a mid teen's pick on him but as a human being I hope he gets the help he needs to have a healthy life. That is far more important.

As a personal aside I am an Orthodox Christian and I have anxiety and depression issues from being a child abuse survivor. The struggle with mental health is very, very real.

I’m glad that I am judged by who I am today and not the flaws I had when I was 19-21 years old.

I personally extend that same grace to others, including AJ.

He has a long life ahead of him to grow and evolve his mindset.

There were reports that he had some psychological issues, but we took a chance on him because of his talent. But us being the Hawks, of course it back fired on us. Another wasted first round pick.

Indeed. But man dude could ball in the way that you could tell he was a lifer and just had that feel. He combined that playground style we all love and brought a joyous and infectious attitude with them every time.

 

Life is crazy. Things happen and we have to adjust. Just like the game of basketball I guess.

AJ and OO will always be my 2 dudes. Obviously outside of the dime king .

I hope he gets right. 
 

The brain is complex. Events change the courses of people’s lives I just hope he finds peace in this short time for us on .

He is a good kid at heart.

No doubt, AJ was an excellent talent but talent ain't everything. Wish AJ the best
