But they celebrate Mempis because hebwas killed there? That makes nonsense. FYI - National Football championship game is that same day… ...However, MLK game is typically a day game around 3PM, so enough time between the games. 1
Premium Member Popular Post JeffS17 Posted August 16 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted August 16 Spurs having that many national TV games is egregious. I was willing to give a pass in Wemby's rookie year but that team is dog shit and does not deserve to be on TV. San Antonio isn't even a big market... the fact our only two national TV games are 2 of their 13 is ridiculous. 4

But they GUARANTEE a home game for Mempis so they can celebrate where MLK died. Guarantee it. Make it make sense, cyde.

The Hawks could make this really ugly, really fast for the NBA if they wanted to do so. They need to put their foot down on MLK Day. This isn't the first time the Hawks have been shafted with it. MLK's roots are in Atlanta more than anywhere else and the man is venerated in the city. I can't imagine why the Hawks just take this instead of letting the NBA know that a storm is coming if they don't get their home game to celebrate Dr. King. The Hawks shouldn't have to make things ugly but how hard is it to envision coverage coming from the King Center with Hawks personnel lamenting the disrespect shown by the league to King's home town on his day of mourning and celebration? It should really be a win/win with the league promoting King's Atlanta ties. We've already got the amazing court and uniforms to bring out for the day.
Premium Member JeffS17 Posted August 16 Premium Member Report Share Posted August 16 As far as I can tell, we've had an MLK Day home game every season for the past 25+ years. So the NBA knows MLK day belong in Atlanta... this season is clearly an anomaly and I imagine there's a reason for it, potentially something to do with the CFB championship game

RedDawg#8
Y’all, chill. Atlanta is hosting the College Football Championship Game on MLK Day 2025. Whether you care about college football or not the entire downtown area is going to be focused on that. It would be an even bigger issue trying to justify fans having to get in to State Farm will all that fanfare, tailgating, media, etc., taking place next door. It was the right thing to have us playing on MLK Day even though we aren’t hosting. It’s one year, we will be fine lol Edited August 16 by RedDawg#8 1
