THere was a time when Deke would get you Theo Ratliff, Nazr Mohammand and Toni Kukoc.

Now he is being traded for Eric Piatowski, Adreian Griffen and Mike Wilkes.

Give Pete some credit he pulled off a great trade there. Of course Ratlif didn't play for a while but Deke was going anyway.

I agree - Deke was not going to be coming back to the Hawks after his contract expired and he was already starting to show signs of slowing down. It was a solid deal by Babcock.

of course, the only reason we got that good of a deal was that philly was contending and ratliff was out for the season

it was their year to go for it all, but they knew they couldn't do it without ratliff, so they gave him/nazr/kukoc up for deke, who was still a great defender

it made sense for both sides, but it took an injured center on a contender for pete to make a decent trade

He wasn't as bad as folks around here claim. He put together a solid team under Lenny. Trying to dismantle that team without completely rebuilding was an impossible task he shouldn't have tried (in hinesight). Plus his draft picks were really bad.

as a player. He only had one good season left in him. Since then, he's been a garbage player. If we'd signed him, we'd be moaning about it every day since.

odlly enough....and I've said this before...I commend Pete on the JR Rider/Jim Jackson trade. It was a risk that blew up in our face, set the team back quite far...but it was a good trade in terms of taking the risk on a team that couldn't truly succeed...

I had mixed feelings about the trade at the time - I liked Jackson but hated Rider. Jim Jackson was a good player for the Hawks, shouldn't have been a number one option, but a good secondary player.

it was simply a gamble on something that could have turned out, based on need, realizations, and chance...kinda like (without taking into account the cap/team situation) that Isiah pulled in trading for Marbury...if it worked...man, would it have worked
