emeans
Quite Frankly, there just weren't any big men to be had this year. We are playing it safe and not spending the bank and locking into long term contracts and we are still getting serviceable BIG men. If Dampier was the premier big man then like I said there wasn't any true good big men that will make a big impact on the team. There are only 2 impact centers in the East and that is Shaq and Jermaine and Jermaine is really a forward. McGloire is in the West now and I would hardly consider him impact. He is good but not impact. So in a nutshell this was pretty much all we could do to get big men this year and we have 3 bodies to foul Shaq. KBatPCSOM
This is what the team has lacked for a long time, and with the addition of Kevin Willis, this is exactly what the team has added. This is a young team that needs the type of veteran leadership that Kevin Willis will bring. People ignore that aspect of things, but a lack of leadership is a bigger reason this team hasn't won in 5 years. The team didn't lack talent. They lacked the leadership for that talent. Moderators macdaddy Posted September 23, 2004 Moderators Report Share Posted September 23, 2004 I agree Willis is a good addition. I don't want a 42 year old guard but at center he's probably in better shape and plays better D and rebounds better than most of the centers on the bench in this league. Premium Member Wretch Posted September 23, 2004 Premium Member Report Share Posted September 23, 2004 He's not there to help us get over the hump; sh#t, our boys can't even see how far away the hump is *lol* Willis is out there to mentor and provide stability - in the court, in the locker room, and on the road. To top it off, he's got Hawks roots. This is an outstanding move.
KBatPCSOM
The addition of Dominique to the front office and the signing of Kevin Willis shows that the new ownership/management is concious of the gap that needs to be bridge. That is the gap that was created when the team of Wilkins and Willis were blown up.
Employee8
Is this NYHawk person a regular? 'Cause if he is, he sure has a lousy attitude about things here. SHOW SOME DAMN OPTIMISM, BUDDY!!! I am not a die-hard Hawks fan like Diesel but even *I* show some optimism on this upcoming season. Enough of this "it's going to be a long year" CRAP!!!
