jaywalker72
Kevin Willis has a sore back, which has led to the Hawks having to put him on the IR and signing Obinna Ekezie to a 10 day contract. OB made quite an impression on Hawks fans during the preseason last season before his torn ACL last season. He provided a lot of energy and rebounding for the team, which might just be a help to the club right now.

Employee8
Well it's ABOUT FREAKING TIME!!! You watch...He's going to make sure Willis STAYS on the IR for the rest of the season.
Gray Mule
ALL RIGHT !!!!!! Sorry about the sore back. If absolutely necessary, release him as a player and sign him as an assistant coach. Just don't let him leave. Now, about Ekezie - - Yeah! Way to go Hawks !! This may not work out at all, but I like the idea of Ekezie coming back to Atlanta. Here's hoping it turns out great. TheDude
never got to see ekezie play but if he is physical as i hear, that's exactly what we need down low right now.
Moderators macdaddy Posted January 11, 2005 Moderators Report Share Posted January 11, 2005 I've had enough of Collier. I'd rather see Willis getting the playing time, but lets give OE a chance. Why not.
emeans
This is a guy who give us more of a physical presence on the boards. This was a good signing. I am glad to see him back. He was solid in pre-season 2 years ago.
Blunt91
I listened to some of the preaseason games that Ekezie played for us and on thing he can do is rebound. So I think he will help us out in that area plus he can score under the basket. Ekezie is better than all 3 of the centers we have now. He can score and play defense as well. emeans
and take the loss and keep Ekezie? What cap hit will that have next year?
Nicholasp27
they aren't gonna cut collier they won't even let drob start over him for some reason... i do think we have an option on him this summer, tho, so i hope he's not picked up for next year... Premium Member Diesel Posted January 11, 2005 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 11, 2005 I think it all depends on how he recovered. He might have taken the Shawn Kemp route Back. IF he's 100%, then he's definitely worth the 10 days and probably more.
MoonKnight
Collier is under contract for next season with no team option in play. Here is the Hawks contract status (I found this info recently surfing but it appears to be reliable): Atlanta Hawks Date # of total Player signed years salary misc FA Kenny Anderson ........ 9/16/04 1 minimum '05 Chris Crawford ........ 8/10/99 6 $15.75 million '05 Tony Delk ............. 8/1/00 6 $19 million p-opt '05 Obinna Ekezie ......... 1/10/05 1 minimum '05 Tyronn Lue ............ 7/18/03 2 $3.15 million '05 Antoine Walker ........ 8/22/96,1/22/99 3+6 $76.59 million '05 Kevin Willis .......... 9/22/04 1 $1.3 million '05 Jason Collier ......... 7/14/04 2 $3.15 million '06 Al Harrington ......... 1/22/99,10/31/01 4+4 $3,674,502+$24 mill '06 Boris Diaw ............ 7/10/03 4 $5,163,421 rc t-opt '07 Predrag Drobnjak ...... 9/28/03 4 $10.8 million t-opt '07 Royal Ivey ............ 10/3/04 3 $1.95 million '07 Donta Smith ........... 10/3/04 3 $1.95 million t-opt '07 Josh Childress ........ 7/12/04 4 $11,662,931 rc t-opt '08 Josh Smith ............ 7/12/04 4 $6,339,623 rc t-opt '08 This is BK's one big mistake in signing Collier instead of Pryz. By the way, Pryz started at the 5 for the Blazers last night and in 27 minutes had 10 pts, 8 bds, and a block without fouling out. I would love get those numbers here from our starting 5 spot.
