Premium Member Diesel Posted February 10, 2005 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 10, 2005 The other new game I have is Would you do that trade? The trade up for inspection today is: Walker/Delk to Chicago for Davis/Chandler. Why? Chicago gets rid of an unwanted contract. They get set for a strong playoff run. Curry/Walker/Deng/Gordon/Hinrich is a young team that could probably go far in the playoffs... Delk also provides a shooter off the bench. We get Chandler. We pay by taking Davis' contract... BUT we're no free agent hub... So... Would you do that trade? Atlanta trades: PG Tony Delk (11.2 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.7 apg in 24.4 minutes) PF Antoine Walker (20.1 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 3.7 apg in 40.1 minutes) Atlanta receives: PF Tyson Chandler (7.9 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 0.8 apg in 27.4 minutes) PF Antonio Davis (6.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 1.1 apg in 23.9 minutes) Change in team outlook: -17.4 ppg, +3.2 rpg, and -3.5 apg. Chicago trades: PF Tyson Chandler (7.9 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 0.8 apg in 27.4 minutes) PF Antonio Davis (6.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 1.1 apg in 23.9 minutes) Chicago receives: PG Tony Delk (11.2 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.7 apg in 24.4 minutes) PF Antoine Walker (20.1 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 3.7 apg in 40.1 minutes) Change in team outlook: +17.4 ppg, -3.2 rpg, and +3.5 apg. TheDude
if chandler was a center maybe but we would have our forwards spots already so probably not..
ATL_BALLER
NO - we need a beast in the middle. How many times do I have to tell you, Diesel - no bad contracts. Why are you trying to handicap this franchise again? If we can't attract marquis free agents, we will simply build through the draft and maintain flexibility. Nicholasp27
how bad is davis' contract? i'd like chandler cause he can block and rebound... we will have to match his offers this summer if we trade for him...would davis+matched chandler take up 80% of our cap space? could we trade davis+harrington somewhere for a pick and expiring? bogut/felton drafted...chandler matched...johnson signed... felton/johnson/chill/smoove/chandler felton/johnson/smoove/chandler/bogut johnson/chill/smoove/chandler/bogut etc maybe even get swift as well...or another 3pter like jacobsen
Spiral
Thats tough, I'm leaning against it because we would have to lock up Chandler after next year long term. We would be very limited as to what we could do in free agency also. I'll pass on this one. I'm not so sure the Bulls would go for it either. Spiral
Davis makes $12,865,000 this year & $13,900,000 next year. After that we could breath again.
Weez
it'd be tempting. if not for the health concerns of chandler, I'd definitely be in...
Packfill
I agree with Weez, if Chandler was clear of any medical problems I would definitely do the deal. Yes you need to throw some money at Chandler but it is the same money you would trhow at a free agent center anyway. Davis' contract is terrible but it expires (assuming it is two more years as Spiral suggested) in time for the Hawks to pay big money to our current rookies. Premium Member Wretch Posted February 10, 2005 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 10, 2005 It does and I would do this deal too. This is a trade scenario that I have been thinking about for a while. The only thing is, I think Chi would be more interested in Harrington... Packfill
Either way works for me (though I would prefer to hold on to Harrington), we could package Crawfords expiring contract to make the numbers work
DominiqueWilkins
Quote: it'd be tempting. if not for the health concerns of chandler, I'd definitely be in... Exactly my thoughts, I'm glad I read all the post before I posted the same thing. I have always disliked how much Davis gets paid, because he is by far the one player who doesn't deserve the amount he gets. When I first saw the trade idea it was temping, because we would only have to deal with Davis for 1 season. I have been saying for 2 years now that we don't even need to consider Davis, and I will still stand by that. We should(if Billy Knight likes him) just try to go after Chandler this offseason, but ofcourse it's not likely we will be able to aquire him. Premium Member Diesel Posted February 11, 2005 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted February 11, 2005 Davis has 1 more year on his contract... It's not that bad!
Iman
I'd do it. Here's my reasoning. I do think Walker is a better player than Davis but on this team Davis would be just as valuable since Davis can play center. Both are overpaid, Davis moreso and the extra year sucks but I'm not that sure who we'll sign anyways. So in effect to me it's Davis for Walker and we get to resign Chandler for sure versus not getting him at all. Delk probably will not be resigned next year anyways. We'd have very little capspace left next year but we'd be a solid team assuming Chandler stayed healthy and assuming we draft an asset.
