tmac13
Every year there are players that grow on you during the tournament..There are also players that don't look quite as good as advertised. I like.. Bogut..Good skills, great hands, good size, great tenacity, has a winners attitude, is a warrior..Won't know how to react to not being double and triple teamed all the time. Deron Williams..As clutch as they get, good shooter, GREAT defense, excellent size, maybe just a little slow. Is the best all around point guard I have watched in this tournament. Sean May..Great thick body with skills..Has excellent hands, good rebounder, on a team of stars he is the most consistant. Channing Frye..Much better than I thought..Is big and agile..Has nice post moves..Would be a steal if he lasted to our early 2nd round pick. Francisco Garcia..Looks like the reincarnation of a young Reggie Miller..Has nice handles and an excellent shot..Perfect size for a 2. I don't like as much.. Raymond Felton..On this North Carolina team he should be leading the country in assists..He is very inconsistant..Has a nice all around game and good size but seems to be lacking the basketball knowledge of a guy like Deron Williams. Marvin Williams..Looks like a star sometimes, looks lost other times..He might be an NBA superstar someday, but he may be a free agent before he matures..A talent but a risk in my book. Chris Paul..Great offensive game, but I have serious reservation with his size..He is short and thin..Can't imagine him trying to keep an NBA guard from backing him down..Doesn't seem tenacious on defense like a small guard has to be.. Jarret Jack..A turnover waiting to happen..Has all the size and skills, but has questionable handles..Plays way to inconsistant. J.J. Reddick..Will never get his shot off in the NBA without lots of screens.. Add to the list..Or tell me how stupid my observations are..
emorystar
Agreed. If we get #3 or below, I hope ATL targets Deron Williams.
pathway23
What do you think about Arlando Tucker, Wisconsin James Augustine, Illinois Gansy & Pittsnagle, WVU etc
ersimo2889
I like the list, but I also like Raymond Felton a lot more.. He has good size, is very strong, a good finisher and has impressed me with his outside shot. True, he should be getting more assists with all that talent around him, but at the end of the day he is still the point guard and leader of a Final Four team. I also liked Joey Graham out of Oklahoma State, and though they lost in the first round, that forward out of New Mexico, whose name I can't think of. tmac13
I like Tucker..he was a suprise to me, I also like Pittsnagle, although as a pro I see another DRob, not sure if Augustine is athletic enough to play the pro 4 , but I love that lefty baby hook...I think Gansy is another guy that would never get his shot off in the NBA. TheDude
if JJ Redick is LUCKY he'll be a 3 point specialist..i think he killed himself in the tournament. He can't drive or create his own shot. He could only HOPE to be a Wally Szerbiak. But no, if he's lucky and keeps working, he'll be a backup and a 3 point specialist. I liked Simien's game althought they lost. F Garcia has REALLY impressed me. I wonder how low we could steal him at. Pittsnogle. Man that guy is fun to watch. If he could work on his lateral quickness, he could be devastating as a SF. I don't think he's a senior coming out so I'm going to be looking for him next year. Could be an American Dirk Nowitzki if he was quicker. But he does need to work on the agility. Sean May I don't remember if he's a senior or what but he would be a solid pick in the 2nd round. To me is borderline 1st round. Could be a Boozer type. That kid from New Mexico(i think) I beleive called Granger was impressive also.
pathway23
I think you're thinking of Danny Granger. Lots of interesting prospects in the tournament this year.
KBatPCSOM
You know, Sean May's father and Mike Woodson were teammates at Indiana.
Premium Member Diesel Posted March 28, 2005 Premium Member Report Share Posted March 28, 2005 The two guys who I think stepped up in a major way in the NCAA.. Sean May. I thought of him as a flabby big man with some game. This guy has been a monster. He has learned how to dominate his competition. Hayes from Kentucky. I don't think he will be a good pro, but this guy has been heady, smart without the ball, and crafty with the ball. In college basketball, he will go down as a guy who was a great leader (like Mateen Cleaves or Ed Obannon).
Spiral
The guys that have really stood out to me are Deron Williams and Sean May. Williams has probably elevated himself to the top point guard in the class. (assuming Paul doesn't come out) He doesn't turn the ball over and runs the offense like Jason Kidd did at Cal. May has carried his team. I don't think he could do what he's doing now at the NBA level because he lacks height. But as for the college game, Diesel is right, he has been an absolute monster. Premium Member Diesel Posted March 28, 2005 Premium Member Report Share Posted March 28, 2005 It would be funny if May pulls a Danny Manning... If he carries UNC to the title and won it with post play, I would think his stock would go way up... ESPECIALLY if he beat ILL to get there.. Admin capstone21 Posted March 28, 2005 Admin Report Share Posted March 28, 2005 You guys all feel that it is May that is carrying the team. I disagree, it is Felton that makes or breaks UNC's chances of winning. When he is not in the game the team struggles. May has been amazing but they have a number of guys who can step up McCants, the Williams boys, Scott, May but if Felton is not out there the team is lost. The last two games when Felton came out (once for injury the other for foul trouble) the opposing teams came back to tie it up or take the lead. Felton is the most important piece to UNC's puzzle. Lascar78
FYI May is staying in college for next year. He has been absolutely awesome, but I just feel very uncertain about how his game will translate into the NBA. At best, his game is Elton Brand like (in style, he isn't quite as good of course). I would like to see him against bigger, more athletic defense.
Packfill
I liked what I saw from Channing Frye. Very athletic, coordinated and good size. Probably a power forward who could play a little center. I doubt he ever turns into a superstar but he definitly could be a dependable starter or great reserve. I would definitly consider him anywhere outside the lottery.
Packfill
Let me add that I really like Deron Williams and Luther Head from Illinois. Both are such great competitors. Deron would be an awesome pick-up for the Hawks if they do not end up with the top pick. I know the team needs a center in the worst way but if the Hawks are unable to draft Bogut there is no other big man that will be of any immediate help. so if the Hawks end up with say the third or fourth pick, I would be inclined to go with Williams and then try and pick up one of Dalembert or Chandler. Agreed. If we go for Bogut, I would love to see us draft Luther Head in the second round.
tmac13
If we decide that Bogut is just not overall number 1 worthy, and we decide that we already have enough 3/4 types and pass on Marvin Williams, we could try to pull off a trade with Utah and get their (approximately) number 4 and 25 picks for our 1 or 2 pick..That might net us Deron Williams and Channing Frye..Just a thought.. Lascar78
In my opinion, with the PR fiasco that the past decade of hawks basketball has been, there is NO WAY IN HELL that BK is trading away a #1 pick. And I, for one, am glad
tmac13
BK could care less about PR..He thinks he is all knowing when it comes to basketball knowledge and will do whatever he thinks is right.
Lascar78
BULL PR is the reason he had to ship every single player from the Babcock era out of town once new ownership was in. Otherwise you could have kept some of them instead of just ridding ourselves of their contracts. I think he understood the need for a new image of the hawks. And he understands what a disaster trading the #1 would be if that #1 turned out to be the best player in the draft
