Admin
in his column today about the 10 worst offseason signings this year, here is what he had to say about the Hawks effort. Article: 2. Joe Johnson, Atlanta Hawks (five years, $70 million, 17.3 pts, 5.2 reb, 15.18 PER) Assuming this deal happens, it was bad enough for the Hawks to offer to pay Johnson roughly double what he's worth by giving him $14 million a year. It was bad enough that Atlanta's "plan" involves Johnson playing the point full-time, even though he gets into the paint about as often as Shawn Kemp gets into a leotard. But the real kicker for me is that the Hawks are now willing to fork out two No. 1 picks to Phoenix for the right to overpay Johnson so badly. Johnson's numbers have been inflated by all the minutes he's played, but on a per-minute basis he's a pretty ordinary player.
NickJYD
I gave the guy congrats for being another Hawk hater. I also gave him props for not mentioning Bobby Simmons on his list. The guy is a solid player that is going to be vastly overpaid next year. Finally, and the main reason my question didnt get answered in his chat was that I told him he should shave his bushy ass eyebrows so he might be able to see an actual NBA game and be able to decipher talent a little bit better. Premium Member mrhonline Posted August 9, 2005 Premium Member Report Share Posted August 9, 2005 There is no one stat that gauges a player's defensive ability and there is no stat that distinguishes the little things that a player like JJ does to help a team win. Hollinger surely must have forgotten that... ...but he's too busy with a spreadsheet and a box score. (And that's coming from a big stat guy). KB21
He's also apparently too assinine to admit that Johnson's numbers were supressed on the Suns team. Why doesn't he bring up the fact that Joe Johnson put up 20, 5, and 5 as the Suns point guard after the Marbury trade? This is the problem with the statheads in baseball and now in basketball. They refuse to look at a players ability on the floor, choosing to look at only the numbers.
Admin chillzatl Posted August 9, 2005 Admin Report Share Posted August 9, 2005 Everything else is perfectly in line with his career, except apg, which are down due to that not playing as big a part in last years teams style.
